V8 Supercars' expanding international reputation has been endorsed by US network SPEED sending a full commentary and production team to cover the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and Armor All Gold Coast 600 for telecast throughout North America.

Both prestigious V8 Supercar events will be broadcast live and in prime time on the SPEED network which is available in almost 84 million homes across North America. The intensifying interest in V8 Supercars throughout North America is a gleaming endorsement of the sport.

The signature events will also be broadcast in full HD throughout North America.

SPEED is making a significant investment in V8 Supercars by bringing their commentary and production teams to Australia. They will share the resources of V8 Supercar Television which produces the live pictures for the Seven Network domestically, BigPond’s vast online coverage and more than 130 countries around the world.

V8 Supercars will provide SPEED with a purpose built set in pit lane for both events. It will also convert all of its race graphics and information specifically, for example converting kilometres into miles and litres into gallons.

The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is one of the world’s most famous sporting events, sitting alongside the likes of the great Monaco F1 Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, the Daytona 500 and the Le Mans 24 hour.

The Armor All Gold Coast 600 is quickly rising to a similar stature with 28 international drivers joining the field as co-pilots, including the likes of Sebastien Bourdais, Helio Castroneves, Dan Wheldon, Tony Kanaan and Aussies Will Power and Ryan Briscoe who are household names in the US.

Both live telecasts will be promoted extensively not only on SPEED but also on its parent FOX network through News Corporation’s wide array of multi-platform US-based sports assets.

I'm just pumped as I've never seen the V8s live, much less the 1000.

Yep, about time though. Finally I dont have to adventure through the virus infested outer reaches of internet to actually find a stream of the great race. Good to see Gold Coast will also be a part of this as well, hopefully this is the future of V8 Supercars broadcasting on SPEED, although they seem to always put the tape delayed broadcasts in the best timeslots for general viewership, usually between, before or after NASCAR practices/on track activity.

Who would have thought several years ago North American viewers could watch the Bathurst 1000 live and in HD while not being able to watch the 12 Hours of Sebring except for internet streaming and that rubbish highlights show on ABC?

Cant help but think this is great news for the series. Live coverage in the USA for two races and thena race in the USA, should open the door for some more sponsors

Also this will be shown in HD so thats even better news for those that cant be there

well i will be, but that aside, my understanding is that after last years stink, Bathurst must be shown live, meaning the viewers miss out on action but what they do see will be live. this means that you should be able to have the live timing going also

Would have thought it would be shown on the main station which SD. Not unless they a showing Bathurst on 7 and 7mate. Do they use HD cameras to capture the event?

I think it is... either that or an amazing upconversion. Our highlights are shown in HD and it appears to be true 720p+.

you are correct it will be shown on the main station in SD, it will be shown on Mate in HD, thus it is meant to be on two stations at once

This was confirmed during the commentary today that Bathurst would be in HD on 7mate at the same time.

Any insiders know if it's real HD or an up conversion?

well I caught some promo clip as well on the weekend and they said "first time ever in HD" or something to that point so I hope they follow throught... But the problem is channel 7 is known to broadcast the worst resolution HD picture out of the FTA bunch so I believe...

Between these four we'll have "massive dramas", stories of 1970s and 80s NASCAR, talk of 1980s Formula Atlantics and more Cliches than I can handle. With this and typical "infomercial like" coverage from SPEED, we should expect to miss most of the race. I hope they don't screw it up completely. Positives is at least they are bringing out the big guns for the greatest series on wheels.
