Practice 1 & 2 have concluded with Toyota (obviously) up front, the #8 car leading both sessions in lmp1. The gap between them and the next lmp1 is about 1.7 seconds.
In lmp2 the Signatec Alpine Oreca led while in GTE the new Aston Martin is the pace setter so far. Practice 3 is in 30 minutes and has been extended from 60 to 90 minutes due to stoppages in both the first two practice sessions. Those stoppages were from curbing being broken and ripped up by cars which needed work on the track. |

No coverage on TV, no youtube streaming. What's going on with WEC?

I'm hoping there's something in terms of free streaming for the race. Anyway it was a good qualifying session. Aston Martin and BMW on the front row in GTE, and then in lmp1 the #7 pulled out pole from the #8 after one of Buemi's laps was deleted. Not record setting pace from the Toyotas this round and the private teams (Rebellion) were under a second back on average.

It was also streamed on Motorsport TV for those who subscribe to that service, and of course there was an audio version on RS3 from Radio Le Mans, which was free.

#7 Toyota penalised and will start from the back of the LMP1 field, #8 now on pole:

They don't start a lap down though I don't think.

Correct, although I'm not sure where exactly they will start on the grid. DSC understood that they would be placed at the back of the LMP1 field, but the implication from the article on the WEC website is that they will start at the very back of the grid.

I thought they would start at the back of the prototype field meaning behind the P2s. Afaik that has happened in the past

The race will be entirely on FS3 so I could watch it.
Sad error from Lopez to lose pole position. SMP and Rebellion looks very close each other and It could be a good battle there, the same between ByKolles and DragonSpeed. |

https://motorsport.tv/livestream
runs a 1-month trial. Does not require a credit card, just email confirmation. Geoblocked in US (you might be able to take the trial in US too, but the race feed won't be visible and will be geoblocked, I confirmed that by logging in with a VPN). The stream uses the WEC feed, same comms and continuous feed. |

Should be able to watch on youtube. Just type in Fuji and select live. About 45 minutes from now until the start.

You can always sign up to the online system and pay for a system that doesn't work. That's always a fun way of doing it.
Anyway - not a great race. Turns out adding a tiny bit of weight didn't make a difference - shock and horror. Clashing with Petit is stupid for many reasons, but the biggest takeaway is that Petit is consistently awesome, whilst Fuji is consistently a bit meh. So WEC comes out looking terrible every time. Onto Shanghai. Let's added a couple of grams to the Toyotas this time and pretend it'll negate the entire hybrid advantage. |

That's a bit mean to Fuji, the 2016 WEC race was one of the greatest races I've ever watched. I didn't get to watch this edition but did see some highlights that looked good.

I don't know what happened to the Aston Martins, as they've again been nowhere after qualifying on pole. One of the BMWs did have pace, the other I don't know. #92 Porsche extends their comfortable margin in the championship points table by finishing 1st. |

Also IMSA's BoP-fests dominated by random safety cars are the definition of 'meh' to me.

WOW, some interest in the series here, with barely two pages in the race thread....
Anyone know why the official WEC site is saying this is the first Porsche GTE PRO victory with the "current model"? I though they won 1-2 at Le Mans with that car. |

Proton didn't have a very good race including post race penalties and being investigated for refuelling time irregularities with the car data loggers. |
