A unification would be just what the doctor ordered at this time of recession etc. Get cars on the grids and spectators through the gates.

a merger would be fantastic. Over the years, I've noticed that some drivers exclusively one championship (I understand some for political reasons, some geographical and some financial), so one unified championship that covers the whole country (not the North/South split) with all competitors would be great for spectators and better for TV audiences (ie future spectators/competitors)

Fuchs Lubricants extend title sponsorship agreement with the Rallycross Open Championship into 2010
Press release date: Wednesday 5th August 2009 In association with: ATM Sport Ltd, Bilstein UK, Chris Birkbeck Rallyschool, Corbeau Seats & Luke Racing Systems, Direct Clothes, Dodo Juice, Elite Transmissions, Fre-quent, Get Connected!, K&N Filters, Kent Cams, Nutt Travel and Revolution Wheels Fuchs Lubricants (UK) plc have today confirmed that they have extended their agreement with PSM Motorsport Ltd into 2010 to continue as the title sponsor of the Rallycross Open Championship. The deal will see the Championship once again branded as the '2010 Fuchs Lubricants Rallycross Open Championship'. At the same time as extending the agreement with the Rallycross Open Championship, Fuchs can also confirm that they have secured the rights to be the title sponsor of the Rallycross Superprix from next season onwards, which will see the event become known as the ‘2010 Fuchs Lubricants Rallycross Superprix’. Doesn't look like the Open Championship is going anywhere fast.
You can read that in two ways... ...not going anywhere as the above sponsorship deal points to the fact there will be a heavily sponsored and televised Open Championship next year. ...you can also read it that following the MSA announcement today for LHMC to run the real British Championship along with a British Rallycross Grand Prix, (plus the European round), now has completely shotdown the Open Championship's original vision of bringing competitive European style rallycross to the UK in a big way. |

Rallycross Grand Prix or Rallycross "Superprix" no competion there in my eyes with all the history etc of the GP plus it will be run at the home of Rallycross.

I think which GP/Superprix wins depends on what European drivers turns up to each event! The danger is overseas competitors will not know which to support, think the Brits are squabbling once again and not show up to either.
Okay, I've a northern bias but I can't see why a club circuit with basic facilities like Lydden should automatically win out over a track with better facilities like Croft that can attract BTCC, GT and major national circuit championships. Lydden's a great place but it isn't Brands. |

Clearly, my southern roots have their bias too, but I quite agree with the above. With two competing GPs, it may well dilute the field the one time it really matters - getting interest from Europe and TV.
Both circuits have their pros and cons, whether it is more easily accessible for Mainland Europe/Scandinavia, better facilities/home of rallycross and ERC round (so people will look at it as practice) etc. Maybe, if they got together they could agree to alternate the venue, year on year?! |

i personally think that the open championship is going to be massive as the british championship as usual is trying to attract the big guns in the sport with big bank accounts and are forgetting about the normal working man who grafts his bits off to build a reasonable spec car and go out and compete and have fun,
i myself race in the open series in revivals, what are the british championship doing to attract the competitors from the lower divisions who can't afford to put big money into a car and run it for a sesaon. amalgamation of the two would be tremendous, but as it is now, its the open series for me and the rest of the revivals boys. hopefully one day this can be addressed and a unified rallycross championship would be awesome |
