The Canadian Grand Prix 2010 Thread
So, this Friday through to Sunday, we see Formula 1 make a bold return to the Olympic rowing basin at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
I'm sure many of us have different memories of this magnificent track, which has changed only slightly over the years since its introduction in 1978. Whether its Alex Wurz's Benetton sailing over the head of Jean Alesi, whether it's the French-Sicilian's iconic image of him gaining his maiden win, or perhaps Gilles Villeneuve fighting Alan Jones to the delight of the Canadian crowd. Without a doubt, this is one of the finest circuits on the calendar. In recent memory, we've seen Lewis Hamilton suffer a moment of pit lane brainfade - Will McLaren continue to mop up the pieces left by Red Bull? Whitmarsh believes the car will suite the straights of Montreal, and with the most advanced f-duct on the F1 grid, you'd struggle to argue. On topic of Red Bull, how will drivers Seb Vettel and Mark Webber fair after their public spat in Istanbul? Much has been made of Red Bull's seemingly non-existant team orders, but have the team significantly band-aided this with the contract extension of Mr Webber? Once again on the subject of contract extensions, Ferrari's 800th Grand Prix couldn't have been more average, especially for Felipé Massa who had reigned supreme at Istanbul in recent years. With Ferrari now committing to both drivers (at least, for the time being!), could we see a resurgence for the scuderia? And finally, who could forget Robert Kubica's triumpth and horror at Montreal? In 2007, F1 stood still as we prayed for Robert's wellbeing after a monster crash going in to the tightest hairpin on the track. One year later, the BMW star conquered a cracking track (the tarmac ) to win the 2008 Canadian GP, in a sensational turnaround. So ladies and gentlemen, please put your feet up, and welcome back our old friend, the Canadian Grand Prix of 2010! Selby --- Quote:

Ill be there. I even remeber the time I was sitting at the hairpin in 2004 when Massa was racing for Sauber. He lost his brakes and Nailed the wall. All i remeber was it went silent, everyone got up and you feel the grandstands swaying. Amazing track and nightlife thats forsure. Im leaving Friday at 10 am since i have a 7 hr drive ahead of me So ill miss friday practice but Will be there for the rest of the week.
There calling for showers sunday and real humid friday and sat. WHAT A WEEKEND!! |

Looking forward to this one to be the real showdown for RBR & Mclaren and that means team against team and team mate against team mate. Renault and Mercedes will be close and fast with the lower downforce setup for the long straights. Should be interesting if the ware on brakes, tyres and general attrition allow the new teams especially Lotus to creep up the standings. BTW almost directly after the race Australia V Germany in Sth Africa could be an extra sweetie for Webber on Vettel

I'm really looking forward to this weekend.
Canadian GP. World Cup. Le Mans and a little get together for my birthday. I'm officially an old git. (Been practising for years). I hope the new teams, especially Lotus, take another step forward and close the gap good and proper. Nice job Dan. |

Cheers guys, and sorry if it was a bit sloppy. This isn't something I usually do, as you all know.
I too will be cheering Lotus on and hoping they can close up, and also if they can keep going in the race of attrition! Have a great time, lotusonpole (that doesn't sound right!) Selby |

Never thought the Canadian GP could get lost on here but falling on LM and World Cup kickoff weekend? Definitely makes a great sports weekend, and of course I have to work 7-6 Sat and Sunday.

Tough one to pick this race.
Webbers been on a roll, Vettel is in just as good a car but the McLarens are closing fast. I think with the F-Duct they could have the upper hand. I dont know why Red bull have chosen not to run it with the long straights here, unless Helmut was bluffing when he said they wouldnt be. Even if its not totally sorted surely it would be an advantage down the starights, and with the low speed corners you cant see how it would be a disadvantage. Anyway, in my pics ive gone with Hamilton for the win. That way if he wins i win, but if Webber wins im an even happier Aussie. Looks like rain could play a part also though. |

Red Bull tried the F-Duct in FP1 in Turkey so it will be interesting to see if it makes another appearance for FP1 in Canada

with the qualifying and the race, because the coverage would be reduced by small breaks during the matches... mind you, it's a 4-year spam event and the most important in the sport. |

I look forward to the race on this circuit each and every year. It's always fun to see who comes out with the hole shot after the opening esses and sometimes shocking to see who ends up leaving their mark on the final turn's wall.

Fortunately, the race falls handily in between two football matches, so anybody who doesn't have much on on Sunday can sit down for the first match and pretty much not move until the second one has finished, with the GP in between. Stock up on pizza and beer!
