850s in Sweden plus a 900 series-no joke!
In 1998 Volvo Personbilar Sverige ran an 850 for Patrick Ernstson. Only competed in the final round, qualifying 19th, DNFing the first race, and DNSing the second.
In 1997, privateer 850s featured for Jens Edman, run by Brorsson Racing. Raced only in final round. Bengt Thenander raced inan 850 for Thenander Motorsport. he did nothing of note. (why do good cars get wasted?) 1996 was the weirdest. No privateer 850s. But a privateer Volvo 900. 940 or 960 I don't know. It'd be 940. Run by Bridgestone Sweden for Ulf Palm. It's best result was an 8th. 1996 also saw stacks of Merc's raced in Sweden. |

the other thing to consider, I suppose, is wouldn't it have been great if these cars had come to Australia in their prime.

Nice to see you've done some research on it! I have finally found the article about the 960, it was a Volvo 960. Will get it scanned in the next few days, stay tuned!

If someone just gave you a ST car for free, how well or long do you think you could race that car? I mean a simple rebuild will set you back 10-20K US!!! |

I remember Phil Ward's Mercedes Benz Super Tourers that were raced in Australia in 1994 and 1995, he had 3 i think, two were ex DTM cars and one was an ex- Group A car.
Anyone else know of any unusual Super Tourers |

The most unusual Super Tourers I can remember are the Mitsubishi Lancer/Galant that was raced by Mark Hales in 1991 and the Ford Sierra Sapphire raced by Dave Brodie in 1993. I think that Sierra might have been 4WD bout im not sure...
