ASC Announces Sport Funding - including motorsport

http://www.ausport.gov.au/ais/austra...g_announcement

The Australian Sports Commission and Australian Institute of Sport yesterday released the allocation of funding to sport in line with the Australia's Winning Edge framework.

Included in this were investments in CAMS and Motorcycling Australia.

No surprises here however it highlights the varying levels of sport funding between sports in terms of high performance sports and participation sports.

Unlikely F J.

This sort of funding is used to encourage either junior involvement or encouraging people to start in Motorsports rather than propping up an individual race team or series.

Without grass roots level events none of our current crop of pro racers would be where they are today as they all started at club level where they honed their skills and moved up the ranks.

CAMS to it's credit is attempting to get junior involvement in not just racing but the marshalling side of the sport.

Many of the people who mentored me early in my marshalling are no longer with us and it's my generation that is now having to take up the mantle of not just helping those younger than us but trying to encourage the Gen Y's to get away from their PC's try real sports.

The funding will hopefully be used to help with that.
