Rounds 16-18, Snetterton

First news is that Welch won't be there. No real loss imo, the credibility of that team has already disappeared...

...but the summer break has finally ended!

I haven't been to Snetterton since the revamp so can't comment on the new sections of track but the exit of the esses is pretty good as is the final chicane. The new banking may have opened up some other good locations.

Facilities are typical MSV - pretty good. The toilets will be plentiful, working, clean and kept clean. Food outlets will be both MSV and independent - usual selection of dubious meat in a bun options. Booze also available if required.

I'm slightly ambivalent on the changes for Snetterton. I appreciate the better facilities and also the new spectator banks, however I feel the new layout is just a massive step backwards. On top of that its over 2 min per lap, so the new layout has made a already long lap, much longer.

The viewing itself is pretty good though, no massive high debris fences, virtually every area has those chest-height fences, so that's a really good thing.

Small point, but since the revamp there isn't a final chicane any more - it's a 90-ish degree left onto the main straight now. It remains a good place to watch from though. Decent spot for photos, too, if that's your thing.

The new banking that overlooks both the main straight and the new infield section is also pretty good, you can see probably nearly half the track to a greater or lesser degree, if you stand near the top.

I don't mind the new layout personally, though I do agree about the length of the lap. In a way like to see them try the 200 layout, in the interest of shortening the lap, though that would render two of the big new spectator banks all but useless...

Thanks for your feedback, I agree about the lap length.....the old snett was quick, the bomb hole always looked severe on tv!

The old Russell Bend in its final formation was the place where overtaking took place - admittedly some of it a bit wild and opportunist. Since the 300 developments, Corum was tightened and Murrays (nee Russell) is now a tighter left hander and the new combination isn't really an overtaking spot like it used to be. However, do these corners better than your rival and hope to make a move stick into Riches or Montreal.

only been once since they "modernised" it, and haven't got any plans to go again. old snett was unique and a challenge because of that. now it's just nothing special - much like the changes made to silverstone.

agree that the viewing is very accessible though, and on a warm sunny day it's a very pleasant place to watch some racing (compared to how it is in any other weather conditions).

Support our Paras Racing have lost a TBL. One car for rest of the season. Could be a blessing I suppose focussing on one car (trying to find the positive)

Paras Racing down to one car for the rest of the year. Not that surprised, although I am a little surprised that TOCA have pulled their licence.

soft tires announced

Shedden will go Race 1 with soft, so I really think he will copy Plato tactic , start from pitlane and try to get a really fast lap early on

Turks and Neal also go with soft in race 1

I don't understand how Motorbase can miss half the season and retain their TBL, yet Paras can make every effort to get new cars on the grid and then lose a TBL?

Probably because Motorbase have built an established relationship with Alan Gow and agreed with him that they would keep their licence and be back half way through the season.

There are other things you can say about the Infiniti team but i dont want to go to court

Because Motorbase are an established Touring Car team with a great pedigree and history in the sport and Infiniti are an uncompetitive shambles who've had more drivers than points this season?

Just a thought.

Perfect drive by Colin, what we expect of him. Shedden needs to pull his finger out in R2

What a weekend.

Colin seems to have found his way with FWD. Let's hope it's not a fluke. Plato will know what he's up against now.

It seems when Shedden has bad luck, he really has bad luck. You had to feel for him.

Well done Goff on his first win, despite almost switching off on the last lap. He's always been there or thereabouts. This will do wonders for him. Jordan must be wondering what he has to do to win a race.

Great battle for second in race 2. Also great to see Mat Jackson has lost none of his raceyness on return. It's great to have the BTCC back again.

And great to see Jack Sears looking well at 85!
