Not by any means aiming to explain their sudden pace at Barcelona, I'd like all of you have a look at photographs of the new Arrows and try to distinguish two unique features of the car, which aren't seen on any of the other F1-cars this year!
Go ahead, give it a shot! Regards, Dino IV |

Good Lord, SPARKY!!!!!
How are you doing? Hope you're recovering fully and quickly! Didn't lose your sense of humour ... and still having the technical edge! You're right! Bummer, I didn't know Autosport featured it, didn't saw it on any site so therefore thought to have a nice one Pull-rod suspension back again after an absence of ten years! Look at this picture and see how thin they are. They can be kept that thin compared to push-rod because of the behaviour of carbon fibres being stronger under extraction than under compression: And now the other one, go ahead! Regards, Dino IV |

Dino, Where did you get the photo of the Arrows?
Concerning Arrows' apparent resurgence, I'm wondering if Prosts best hope would be to fire John Barnard. Ferrari, Benetton and now perhaps Arrows have shown that they become successful in the year(s) following the great mans departure. I'm reminded of Giorgio Piola's great tech-analysis of the '98 GP cars where he described the number of technical novelties on JB's first 'proper' Arrows. Seems his philosophy of preferring to do advanced design may be correct. |

I don't know, Dino.
Could it be the triple support on the dual-plane front wing? Or the full height barge-boards? Or the full radius on leading edges of the radiator sidepod intakes? Or have they re-interpreted the rules on cockpit protection to reduce frontal area? I dunno, but I'll keep lookin'... Good topic ol' chap!! |

Nice detail on the pull-rods is the 'all new A21' Arrows presented on the Autosport show on January 15.
It doesn't feature the pull-rods but instead the traditional push-rods. Probably a mock-up where they didn't want to unveil too many innovations. Probably the same A20 Gerard showed on the F1-forum, now in Orange-livery. The second detail is one a friend of mine came up with and I didn't spot it on any of the other cars. The undertray of the A21 is extended to the max of the sizes the regulations allow or the other cars have it the same size but have larger side-pods than the A21. Only the Prost feature them that narrow. Another remarkable thing is the complete absence of winglets in front of the rear tires. They seem to be standing extremely free in the driving wind and that can't be aerodynamically profitable, so I expect to see some form of winglets there the next races. The Prost for instances features two large winglets stocked in two stages. Bob> When you right-click on the pictures and select 'properties' you can see exactly the link to the picture. I've spotted the feature of which you speak...suffice it to say that it is a safety feature, I try to find a close-up pic.

Nice idea the pull-rod suspension, but as we all know, it failed!
