Sauber C22 presented

As shown on F1live.com, Sauber silently launched their 'Christiane 22' today.

The car certainly looks good (a little more droop-nosed), probably the sleekest car Sauber ever built, has a serious engine and the tyres to go with that.

Did Andy Warhol paint that thing? Chassis looks good though, even that roman nose.

the Sauber cars from the C20 in 2001 have the similar look, i think its the sidepod shape, but they aerodynamically dont look all that different.

That nose looks pretty .....i dunno.......wierd maybe. Looks very square.

Livery a tad different.

But yeah, overall, a pretty nice car overall.
Sauber seem to come up with nice packages. Who thinks the C21 was a more aerodynamically efficient car than the FW24?

Got last year's Ferrari engine/gearbox and rear end - surely the basis of a great car already....

A deceptive design, a bit like the Renault... looks quite basic and boxy at first glance, but is chock full of cute details on closer inspection. Very neat. As pioneers of the twin keel thing they have to most natural looking implementation of it, I think. Exhausts don't have the Ferrari full periscope shape - interesting... must be a completely different exhaust design because to terminate the standard exhaust there would make it quite a bit shorter. The F2003 exhaust are apparently even longer. Sidepods are not quite as bulky as last year's - but still fairly slab-like. Clearly Ferrari don't sell them radiator technology to go with the engines. Engine is Ferrari, gearbox is their own - as is rear suspension etc, so don't expect F2002 performance on that account.

The paint job is truly one of the worst on the grid.
No actually, it IS the worst on the grid.

I like the paintjob - faster, more flowing and a lot more flattering than last year's effort.

She's a lovely car, Godspeed to Heinz-Harry, Nick and all who sail in her...

The yellow just makes that car look LOVELY, I'm another who think it's the best looking car so far.

Very sleek package, I really hope Nick Heidfeld can get some good results, and with BAR, Jaguar, Jordan etc in disarray, and a Ferrari motor in the back, who knows...

Sauber back to 4th this year in the WCC and Nick for a top 6 finish in the WDC.

Ok, so I'm overly-confident, but the car looks good, there's a Ferrari in the back, the team has two terrific drivers and the team is now financially secure, what else could you want?

Could be 4th in the WCC for Sauber F1M, but 6th for Nick? Don't think so.

The paint scheme and general presentation is lovely, if you take off that bargeboard. I'm sorry, it does not fit in at all - it looks like it's been stuck on as an afterthought. The yellow blob above the driver does fit in though, I think as in doesn't exactltly end the shape but goes into the air.

As Glen says it may be a ferrari motor but all else is made to sauber specs.
So a little less performance here,a little less there..it will all add up.
FWIW i think they do quite damn well in WCC,ferrari engine or not.Remember what they were like before willi Rampf took over as tech boss? Now that WAS a waste of a decent engine(LOL but not in prosts league)
As for the engine-usually they get the spec engine from, say monza of the previous year-in otherwords powerfull ones that have had time to be well proven(but without the end of year development,so basically a mid year model)

The 051 ferrari engine, to its September 2002 development stage - according to the Petronas press release. I has different exhausts though, so maybe there are other differences?
