That's right folks, here is a release from Phil Crompton, the Trans Ams will be coming to race the big Sports Sedans, should be a ripper!A Media Release received today announced that the promoter of the Adelaide
race of a thousand years will be importing some leading American Trams-Am teams to Adelaide to race against the best of Australian Sports Sedans in a support event on the Le Mans Programme. The RT Racing team and their Ford Falcon Sports Sedan driven by Phil Crompton will be definitely entering for the event. "I am confident that we can mix it with the best of the Trans-Am cars after rediscovering a good chassis balance at Lakeside recently" said Phil Crompton. In addition the team tested some 17inch Pirelli slicks on the front of the Ford and was impressed with the grip level and tyre consistancy. "We have ordered some 18 inch rear wheels and will try the Pirelli rears at Oran park next month. If the Pirelli rear tyre is as good and consistant as the front tyre has been then then we should be able to maintain a good chassis balance for the entire race. At the moment the rears are letting the car down as they do not seem to suit our live rear axel setup, they seem more suited to the transaxel cars" commented Crompton. National level Sports Sedans are on the up at the moment with an exciting close fought Australian Championship presently led by Darren Hossack (Saab/Chev)on 164 points from Kerry Baily (Nissan 300ZX/Chev) 160 points and Des Wall (Toyota Supra/Chev) 149 points. An opportunity to race against the Trans-Am cars at Adelaide will be enthusiastically greeted by all of the National competitors who will be keen to show the Americans the way to the flag. |

well i love the big sports sedans down here and have enjoyed the trans am series over the past few years thanks to cable TV ..but will either cars be competitive against each other ???
I dont know which is the quicker as ive only seen trans am on Tv but the sports sedans are very quick machines and I am looking forward to this battle..i also expect a few of the NZ teams head over and have a crack at it as well because trans am racing is popular over there..and it will be great to see a Falcon or commodore or even the big Supra up against a Jag or the Mangusta (Lovely car that one of simo's)...I just dont know which car will be quicker. |

Sounds like an excellent idea to me if the costs are correct. This is the first time that I have heard of this, there has been no mention by our sanctioning body. Let's hope it's more than a rumor.

Welcome aboard Rocketsports!
Well remember when Steve Johnson and other campaigned them on the Gold Coast in the Thundersports (nee Sports Sedans) and won a few races...although it might be horses for courses... Although up against Kerry Baileys rocket, and the Ricciardello Alfa...wowsers! |

I am Paul's youngest son. At 20 I am also one of the youngest team members. This will be my 3rd year at Rocketsports in the engineering capacity. Knowing that Paul has raced in NZ a few years back, I am curious about the differences between the NZ TranzAm cars and the class that we (should we end up there) would be racing against in Australia

Im not sure if there are any differences ..I remember watching the Cleveland airport race this year and Derek Daly was saying that one team sourced their engine from NZ..so it would seem the engine configs are the same but as for the body and stuff i dont know but I believe they are similar.
hope you make it to OZ !! |
