Speed TV - the 14 hours of Le Mans
http://www.speedtv.com/schedule/inde...am=&usecal=yes
Le Mans-----------EDT------------PDT 15:30-20:00|--|09:30-14:00|--|06:30-11:00 The Start 21:30-23:30|--|15:30-17:30|--|12:30-14:30 Evening 01:30-02:00|--|19:30-20:00|--|16:30-17:00 Late Update 06:30-10:00|--|00:30-04:00|--|21:30-01:00 Dawn 13:00-16:30|--|07:00-10:30|--|04:00-07:30 The Finish At least they've provided an update in that huge gap they had in prime-time Saturday night. They also have an ARCA race, an ASA race (each 2 hours) and two runs of Speed News Saturday. I'm not thrilled, as I'd have liked the Dawn coverage to start at 11:30pm EDT. Otherwise, I'm ok with the schedule. It's no 25 hour marathon, though. |

Speed has a lot of infomercials so an all day show is impossible. Its their standard precedure to cut endurance races in half anyway, the 12hrs of Sebring was 6. Im not complaining, anything is better then nothing and 14hrs is a lot of coverage.

They ran full coverage on the major endurance races a few years ago: Daytona, Le Mans, Sebring and Petit Le Mans all got flag-flag broadcast...But i guess they have to make money somehow and that's where all the stock car coverage and infomercials come in.

Ahhh, who cares. It will most likely be the 24 Hours of the Pits, just like last year...

The NASCRAP is out of control, though, when we don't even have same-day WRC coverage.

Wait a minute!
I don't remember this year's Sebring being only 6 hours! Did I just go brain-dead an pretend that the ARCA/NASCAR nonsense was realy sportscars?? I remember Senring being Flag-to-Flag this year....and Petit last fall was Flag-to-Flag...only the 24 hr. races were cut... Correct me if I'm wrong... |

Tim, you're right, it was 13 hours solid coverage at Sebring.
It's only the Le Mans race they cut, and it's largely due to licensing issues (it's not Speed's cameras and director, it's a French station). The price is just too high for them to justify purchasing the full airtime, according to Jim L's postings on Speed's board. |

Just quickly pointing out that F1 qualifying has been moved to 1:00 to 2:30 EDT, but that Speed has not specified the programming from 2:30 to 3:30. Also, Champcar qualifying is from 4:45 to 5:45 EDT according to their sitehttp://www.cart.com/Content/PDF/Resu...3PDFR_0001.pdf)
So, really, it's the hour from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm EDT that isn't accounted for. |

Interesting observation: For the 2002 12 Hours, it was closer to nine hours of coverage. I noticed somewhere around the ninth hour that they were showing two minutes of commercials for every six minutes of racing, and it was consistant until like the last thirty minutes. Also they had somewhere between thirty and fourty minutes of track repair which was solid commercials. That woul have been a great opportunity to bradcast all those little around the paddock type clips, where they talked about all the past winning cars that were there. Every one of those clips were shown during racetime. I think we got about 65% of the race actually covered, and all of the commentators were busy telling their campfire tales. If the ALMS is supposed to withstand the power of NASCAR, Speed isn't helping. Speed's Winston Cup coverage is quite good, however.

If I read another thread about this I'm going to go crazy and chase people around with a wet lettuce leaf!!!!!!!!
In Australia we get NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO F^*king coverage at all but if we do get it - it has always been 1-2 weeks later and a whole 20mins. So please everyone - calm down. -As I am.. Grrr.. enjoy the coverage. |

In North America we've been getting coverage for a long time (I was just watching ESPN's 1988 coverage, with a very young Bob Varsha - I have 6h on tape). Speedvision spoiled us, though, with the flag-to-flag. Since Fox has taken over and renamed it Speed, they've diminished it, so you have to understand the source of the moaning.
That said, I'm much mollified that the coverage is up to 17 hours. The difference between this and the originally scheduled 14 has not changed my perception noticeably, though - as they have the massive break in our primetime. At least they're giving us a mid-break update this year. |

I am going to watch it and enjoy the enduro race in two weeks. I am going to root for the GTS Corvette team to bring a third win in a row.

FOX!!!! How many NASCAR channels do they need?! They already have four! Speed is slowly turning into NASCAR TV, because of some chairman at FOX with a cowboy hat, and a permanant sun burn at the base of his skull! Oh yeah, I forgot about the bull horn, leather tie!!!
14 hours...I had planned to see the race in it's entirety. |

First, it's 17 hours (as I pointed out above).
Second, and I didn't post this here, 'cause I forgot, CART's qualifying is delayed so that means that Le Mans coverage does go to 7pm EDT. |

"Speed Channel" is SLOWLY going to NASCAR???
Good God...they spend all Monday night, most of Wednesday, half of Thursday night, do the "good Ole Boys on TV" at Trackside and replay the qualifying on Fridays, show the Trucks and the Busch Grand Nationals whenever they run during the weekend, and then spend Sunday night telling you about the race you didn't want to see earlier in the afternoon... I'm waiting for them to devote a half-hour to a webcam in Dale Jr.'s Bathroom, so that the NASCAR fans can watch his bowel movements... |
