Has Ralph actually signed for Toyota ?
In itv-f1's story regarding JV/Williams unlikley it reports "with Ralph having signed" when they are talking about Toyta.
Have I simpley missed this massive story or has it not happened yet ? |

That would be a surprise. |

The BBC say that the deal is done and an anouncement is expected next (AUG) month

I'd think Ralf Schumacher would be much more likely.

Its pretty much accepted that he has, but nothing is official.
The general feeling is that they are just waiting to announce it (German home GP for team and driver?) OR that it is waiting for the last approval from Japan. |

yes, I gathered it was pretty much the done deal (I meant Ralf) but I find it unusual for the press to say "now that he has signed" without an announcment.

We're all assuming that Ralf has signed for Toyota, but who knows? Perhaps we'll all be surprised.

Ralf and Toyota should confirm the deal around the British GP time. The fee will be around 100m.
Why so high? Well as he is driving for Williams at the moment he doesn't get taxed because its a British team. But as he is moving to Toyota (which is based in Germany) it means he is going to get taxed and they have to pay him 100m to ensure that he still gets a good wage and the taxman doesn't take it all. The next ignorant, careless person who confuses Ralph an Ralf really will join my revenge list....
On the topic at hand, I thyink something has been signed, and he Hockenheim announcement probably was planned, but I wonder if Indy ahs changed things, epsecially if the contract's fine print was still being approved. |

I hope for Ralf's sake that if there is a contract in the works it was signed before Indy. Toyota have every right / reason to wait a bit till Ralf get's back in the car to see if he is up to snuff if the contract isn't yet signed...

I have doubts that Toyota has really signed RS...and yes, it might be more an error to sign him than YT or say, Davidson...

Sir Frank admitted for the first time in Indy that Williams are looking for 2 drivers for next season.
However, imo, that doesn't mean that Rafe has definatly signed for Toyota, (although he proberbly has), maybe it means that Williams don't want Rafe for next year, even if he wanted to stay with them! |

Could Ralf seriously help Toyota improve next year?
Or is it going to take a while? I wonder how he will react mentally if the Toyota is as effective next year as it is now. |

Well Sir Frank stating that he is looking for two drivers may mean that he wants Schumi Lite to sign with Toyota so he doesn't have to make him redundant.
That is a good one by the way - Toyota's rationale for paying $100 million (if true) to Schumi Lite is to make sure the bloke has a few bob left in his pocket on paydays! I can see it now: Schumi Lite sitting on his helmet in the paddock with a sign that says "Homeless. Will drive for food." I should start a charity for F1 drivers. We could have commercials showing a poor, destitute F1 driver and the narrator saying: "Look at this poor F1 driver! Just 5 years ago he only had two cars and a single residence. Now he has a collection of cars and homes on 3 continents. It takes just $127,386.00 per day to feed and house an F1 driver. Please help us help them! Send what you can to the "Save the Driver Fund" today!" |

I think I am stating the obvious when I say.........
From all that has occurred in the past year or so I would say that it is very safe to say that Ralf will not be returning to Williams for 2005. His rather assertive attitude that we've heard from him sounds to me like a man who's future is guaranteed for (at least) 2005.... and likely with Toyota. Although as many have said, it's a bit of a mystery why they would want him and the verdict is out how well he will do and whether he will help Toyota. Last edited by Kirk; 25 Jun 2004 at 14:38. |
