First Corner in France?!?!
Notice the first 11 positions are within .855 seconds, its a great day for NEXTEL Cup at Magny-Cours.
... and you know there are going to be crashes with DC, JPM & Sato at the front! My first corner prediction ... Alonso, MS, Trulli, DC, Button ... followed by JPM and Button spinning off after contact and Sato taking 4th ... Gene will be passed by either Kimi or Reubens before the first corner, maybe both ... Klein will probably eliminate himself and him teammate, thus ending his (Klein's) F1 career ... lastly, the safety car *could* pass Dolt before the first corner, but is under team orders not to do so. Other than that ... I cannot be too specific about the start! What ever happened to the 105% rule?? Dolt is 106.17% Safety Car is 105.89% Bruni is 105.72% Pantano is 105.11% ... by my calculation. Welcome to 10-10ths
It was a 107% rule and was abandonded when single lap Q was introduced. It was felt changing conditions made it unfair. It is, accoding to Paul Stoddart, one of the reasons why Minardi objected to the re-introduction of all at once Q and ith it 107%. They argued that they had no Q engines so it would be unfair. |

There used to be a rule that any driver who failed to set a time within a 107% of the pole time he would be disqualified from the race unless all the teams voted to let him start.

Would be good if DC led into the first corner, as I think he'd bottle up most people.

Disagree with that Tweed - the McLaren appears to have genuine pace

It's impossible to tell that until we see how much fuel they're carrying.

McLaren have this odd tendency to run DC on bizarre fuel strategies - maybe he is heavier.

I dug out an old tape of the 1995 French Grand Prix a few weeks back and it really was laughable. I think the teams were okay about letting the cars that were outside 107% in qually into the race as long as they proved they were inside the rule during free practice. |

Which side of the grid is P1? Is it on the right so you have the clean racing line, or is it on the left as the first corner is a left hander?

Right hand side, cleaner line and better angle into the left hander iirc.

The run down to the first curve here is not as long as most most circuits, so any clean getaways have to take effect fairly quickly. After that, you are side by side in the curves which tends to equalise things a little.
Then there is the run to the hairpin.....Schumacher could have a mirrorful of F1 machinery at that point. |

My wild guess:
Renault lead one-two out of the first corner |

107% wasn't brought in until 1996 by the way.
1995 was the last time we had the full 26 car grid. Forti's and Pacific's on the last row. |

Maybe the French artists need a new paintbox !
The drivers all seem to have worked out where the circiut is - and it's not where it's painted ! Ripple strips, no-go areas, blend lines at pit exit don't mean a thing to present-day drivers. And the headmaster is too frightened to discipline the class. This "safety" thing is F1 is degenerating into a farce - they'll be tarmacing the entire infield in a couple of seasons. Let's face it the current crop of drivers can't even drive on the circuit |
