Cars New Aero Looks
Don't know about you guys,
But looking at pictures of the 2005 jordan test car, the 2005 BAR rear, the 2005 style ferrari nose. I think these cars are going to look rubbish with the high nose, long rear wings etc etc they will end up looking as bad as the IRL cars Any thoughts ? |

They have been getting worse year by year, im sure 2005 will be another year of increasing ugliness.

The 2004 Renault was one of the most graceful looking F1 cars I have ever seen. Of course, if you are talking about the Williams I get the point. |

Cars with skirts also looked very beautifully.

But if it makes it even a little easier to follow a car through a corner, it's a good thing.

I still think that getting rid of front wings and limiting the size of a rear wing to something about half the size as current would produce the best racing, and also keep sponsor space.
How much do u reckon a sponsor pays to be on the front wing anyway ? |

I remember in 1995 a clive james show (which was reall good FYI) had williams and marketing boss selling the segafedo sticker on the front wing end plates at $2 million ? that was 95 god knows now.

My argument is...
Say if you took the wings off an f1 car. Wouldnt that just bump up the price to sponsor the rest of the car ??? So it wouldnt effect the amount of money coming into the team. What used to cost 100,000 per sq cm now costs 200,000 per sq cm.. All you would see would be smaller logos on the cars. |

IMO it's a bit early to predict 2005 cars' shape.

I don't expect the basics of the car to look very much different from what we have now. Teams do not have the excess time/money/resources to risk a completely different program.

1989 - 1993 had the best looking cars overall.
Oh and the 1995 Ferrari |

The large front facing areas are easy to see from most TV angles.Take them off and most advertisers just aren't interested.Everybody has known this for years and just take it for granted so that's why it's rarely mentioned.Try to suggest a cutback in wing size and you'll soon hear about it tho! The teams do NOT like that suggestion at all Oh-the idea of removing the front wings but leaving the rear ones simply won't work. The cars would be total understeering pigs |

The 2004 Ferrari was hideous, cluttered horridness.
F2003GA - now there's a beauty. |

Ferrari had produced some recently beautiful cars. They look well shaped and fast. Williams cars (bar the front nose they had earlier this season). I think the Arrows of 1998 is beautiful..too bad it isn't fast. I couldn't lay my hand on one of the black beauty models..hence i ended up with a 99 model...same shape, but ugly livery..

Tell you what amazes me......looking back at the Ferrari F2002 and how dated it seems, despite the fact it broke new ground only just over two years ago!

I think that the ugliest car this year was the Renault. Spectacular yes, but ugly. The BAR was much more rounded and clean all around.

(and yes i agree-the black one looked pretty good) I think the same Jordi-the renault was exactly as you say. The Bar was an odd one i reckon! A very nice shape but with one of the dullest paint scemes i've seen! And during a race it looks much worse real quick, the slightest bit of brake dust or filth making it look like it had just done lemans |

The hybrid and test cars are all looking disgustingly like american champ and indy cars.

i'm sure we'll all get used to them. the cars from 2001 looked ugly to me for a few races, with the front wings being mounted higher than the previous season and the sidepods being further forward as well. after a while i got used to them and now when i see a pic of a car from pre 2001 i think the wings look cumbersome and dull, you didn't get the fantastic wavy shape's that we do now.

I think Rich is right, you do get used to the changes, and when you look back over a short space of time, the cars look really strange. I was lookin at a 94 Williams, and it looked so weird!
