So what did you think of the Autosport Touring Car display
This year I was pleased to see a whole display dedicated to Touring Cars. There was a collection of Touring Cars dating back a number of years. Notable cars from recent years were Yvan Muller's Astra Coupe, Anthony Reid's MG ZS and Frank Biela's Audi. Fof those of you who attended the show and saw the display as well as the seperate stands that featured Touring Cars, what did you think?

I thought all of Biela's Audis were returned to Audi and resold to other teams?

It's possible the car had been returned to its original colour scheme by its current owner. The Laguna had a vrey close approximation of a works colour scheme but had Formula Saloons graphics on the car too. It was good to see some of the super tourers making an appearance again, hopefully the ST challenge races this year go ahead and get good entries.

i had my eggenburger car on display,
anyone see it? p.s the muller car, was a shell, copy and had no engine/gearbox/interior in there, by the look under the bonnet it was just a mock up show car and never a race car, thats why they had the windows blacked out!!! |

The Eggenberger car was the highlight of the display for me personally - it looked fantastic. I first watched the BTCC in 1988 when Rouse and Soper had fabulous races at Thruxton, Brands and Donington, and the Texaco RS500 has always been one of my favourite racing cars.

There was a Civic BTCC car at the Scottish Motor show a couple of years back, it looked pretty cracking until i looked inside, standard seats and dash mounted gearstick.
Biela's 96 Audi is race in Britcar, or Formula Saloons AFAIK ? |

Thanks for the pics. So besides the Audi being a showcar/replica, are all the other cars real racecars? The Renault looks a little off for some reason? Are some of these cars restored recently or all original paint/sponsor schemes?

Didn't go to Autosport this year so didn't see these in the flesh.
The Renault is the ex-Menu 97/ ex-Rustad 98 car owned by Rob West, now back in 1997 livery. If the colour looks a bit off it could be the lighting in the NEC. Not sure about the Audi, there's still quite a few of them around. The Mondeo is the ex-Radisch World Cup car now owned by Alvin Powell The BMW is the one used for the Will Hoy demo at Donington last year owned by Don Grice. It's not the actual ex-Hoy car, that was distroyed by Matt Neal many years ago, but a recently built replica. |
