Yeah the headline at Autosport.com as we speak is "Renault pace shocks pit lane!".

The Renaults are setting an astonishing pace there. You can't read too much into it obviously, but my prediction of Renault falling away is starting to look flakey to say the least!

To add insult to injury, according to Ant D who was out for BAR, he was struggling to keep up only to learn that Renault were doing mostly long runs!

Yes, and I predicted BAR would be one of the closest to Ferrari.

YES! Please, let this not just be some strange testing phenomenon. Please.. please... let Fisi have a good car this year so he can silence the critics...

isn't valencia an odd track sometimes to try and judge a cars pace from, wasn't last years mclaren actually quite fast round it. but renault are quicker than everyone else at the test though.

Valencia's not really a true indicator of a car's pace, certainly not for the aerodynamics anyway. I think Renault have always gone well at Valencia.

Antony Davidson “Bloody hell, they are so fast! I couldn't keep up with them. I thought they were in the low fuel zone but in fact they were doing 25 lap runs!”
Sounds good to me. I know it's only testing, but a team improving it's pace is a good sign of things to come. Somebody please bring the fight to Ferrari! Pleaaaasssseee!!! |

Why are BAR using Rossiter and van der Merwe official testing and not perhaps Button?
Have i missed something, why is everybody talking about Renaults amazing pace when Wurz is over 7 tenths faster? Last edited by toot toot; 3 Feb 2005 at 09:50. |

Renault are using the new (slower rules) car - Wurz is in last year's car.
It is a strong Renault circuit, as has been pointed out. |

I didn't know he was in last years car. Whats the point of testing the old car? |

They will use last year's car to get baseline data so that they know where they are with the new car.

For comparison, or to do some components and electronics testings... It allows them to do useful testing without working with their new car.

Today's times are interesting, although I'm not sure if either McLaren driver was in an '05 car: http://www.f1racing.net/en/testresults.php?testID=190
All the British F3 drivers are using last year's car. James Rossiter and Alan van der Merwe had half- a day each yesterday. It looks as though Adam Carroll had a whole day today, so presumably the other two will get another run tomorrow. |
