Foulston's renamed?

On the map used in the Oulton programme Foulston's is now labelled "Britten's" (with the inverted commas).

I don't recollect any announcement of a name change, nor have I any notion who the 'Britten' it's named after might be.

Anybody know anything about this?

A google search revealed the following;

"Jonathan Palmer and two partners John Britten[U] and Peter Ogden have bought Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Oulton Park and Snetterton - Jan 5th 2004."

I suspect that at other MSV circuitsthere will soon be an Ogden Corner and Palmers???

Couldn't be that Foulstons used to have some thing to do with the previous owners of Oulton, Brands etc (Nicola springs to mind)

Does that mean Fosters will now go, as it was named after Rex Foster - the original manager 50 years ago.
Also, as the Old Hall vanished before the circuit opened ................... and it's hundreds of years since any Druids have been about ............. and I haven't a clue who Denton was - or for that matter which bit of the circuit some people refer to as Dentons.

The Foulston Centre at Brands Hatch was renamed the MSV Centre last year. I guess you have to expect new owners to change a few things every now and then.

John Britten was a very quick modsports driver back in the mid-late 60s, embarassing many an E-type, big Healey etc with his MG Midget. Jonathan Palmer too started in Modsports with his Marcos in '76/'77.

That started the wheels of my memory turning very slowly. A quick search on Yahoo confirmed my suspicions......that'll be the John Britten who designed the Arkley SS then!

Jonathan started his Modsports career in a Frogeye Sprite. His debut at a Brands winter clubbie will always stick in my memory. I was watching the first practice of the day from Clearways and couldn't believe the broadsiding antics of this tatty blue Sprite. The race that day never happened - the fog closed in, the meeting was abandoned and it was then that I heard the news of the Graham Hill plane crash which had happened the previous night. Dr Palmer (probably not yet a Dr then) was equally good value when the meeting was rescheduled a few weeks later, by now with the Sprite painted a lurid green.

Pretty much every year for the Phoenix Park races. Deer leaps over the circuit fences and the park rangers set off with the guns. Stops the races for a while and then bang! bang! and the racing resumes.

To be honest, I don't know - I guess it could be after Jean Denton, an ex rally driver. I think she died a few years ago.
