Just a question to all you NASCAR guys. Our local series here in Australia V8 supercars, is really taking off, recently getting 72,000 people to a race in china at the shanghai track . Bahrain and Dubai bidding for a round. So according to the V8 supercars version of the concorde agreement, they can have one more international round as they also go to New Zealand and it is a maximum of 4 overseas rounds. Just wondering if you guys have ever seen a race and whether or not you guys would embrace it. They don't do oval racing at the moment, but i am one who would love to see it. How about if it supported a nascar race or something like that. I promise, you wouldn't be dissapointed.

I've watched them a bit, and they are super cool! They put on a good show, especially because alot of road course races can get boring... and these guys keep my interest.

Well . . if America doesn't get a chance to see the Supercars race on our soil, at least we might get your Champion. Ambrose has been testing for Ford (NASCAR), and might come over here to try his hand in our "Stock" car series.

The V-8 Supercars is bar none, some of the BEST racing on the planet. These cars are amazing pieces of machinery and the racing is mind boggling. I SERIOUSLY would love to see more of them, rather than JUST in the off season. Anyone who isn't sure what the V-8's are, or doesn't like, or doesn't know if they like, the racing i suggest this offseason that you catch a few of these races. Just amazing stuff.

I knew you guys would like to get V8's. You guys are clearly race fans and V8's are exactly that racing at it's purest. The cars really hit very good numbers so they wouldnt look out of place on an oval.

Following on from David_Gillis telling people to watch a race if they haven't already seen one, if you are going to watch a race, watch the bathurst 1000. This track is the deffinition of a great race track. Built into the side of a mountain, it is amazing, 1000 kays, 34 cars doing 161 laps around bathurst is amazing. My favourite racing day of the year. I have a video of arguably one of the greatest laps in anyform of racing at anytime at bathurst. I would like to share it, but i dont know how.

The thunderdome is actually falling into disrepair which is a great shame. That was a pretty good oval, but we just dont have the oval culture over here which sucks.

"American V8 Supercar Series"?

Has Tony Cochrane heard about this , hehe.

I get the impression it's an enthusiasts series for Mustangs & Corvettes? Is this right?

Not that high flying...a pretty low key series for very amateur racers trying to copy in a very rough way what we do.
The cars are slightly modified production cars of the 1980's

Hello people, it is I. My username is different on there, but it is me. It seems they are pretty keen to get it though judging by the pole results.

Yes, the poll results are pretty overwhelming when you consider there were 29 respondents from a country of about 250 million people. Overwhelming.
And V8 Supercars on an oval as a NASCAR support (as someone above suggested)? I think some of the lads might not be happy.
Why not take the Supercars to the States and run NASCARs as support to them? On a road course.

Also considering that there might have been some non US people who also voted on the forum.

Also I dont think a 5 litre car in its current form would even be allowed to run on an oval.

stoned pony, what is interesting that quite a few NASCAR followers i have emailled, talked to are impressed by the V8Supercars on US TV.
Not only that but in NASCAR only forums elsewhere on the net, there has been posts about V8Supercars, all very favourable.
Dave Despain the host of Windtunnel (Speed TV)said about a year ago on his TV segment, if all the emails he got about V8Supercar were turned into ratings in the US, then V8Supercar could be a substantial series in the US.
After that announcement and some slightly less positive comments about JGTC and DTM. The heavily NASCAR connected SPEED TV decided to relegate less and less time to all three series, after those findings ...strange that.
Now they have "NASCAR Poker" "Texas hardtails" and other rubbish. The fans are constantly bemoaning the fact they want the old "SPEEDVISION" back, with all the overseas programs including NZ and Australian JetSprint boating.

Do the Craftsman trucks (if that's what they are still called) run on road courses as well as ovals? If so a line up of V8 Supercars, V8 utes, Nextel Cup and trucks on a road course would have to be pretty tempting to the fans over there as well as the o/s travelling Aussie supporters

John875. As far as I know they USED too. Have not checked their schedule, but I do not think they do anymore.
They might have a problem with V8utes. The only "ute" over there as we know it , was the El Camino but it did not cut it as a truck.
Our Utes area lot more than any ElCamino. If anyone has read the latest version of Motor Trend in Australia, you will notice the ex-WHEELS editor and now editor of MT, Angus Mackenzie gives very big plug to the Maloo, Falcon GT and the Elfin Clubman in the magazines "10 cars that should be in the US"

Thre reason why I suggested the utes is to maximise the Aussie-ness. With the El Camino/Ranchero history in the US I think the concept of what they are is pretty easy to grasp. You can imagine plenty of people who want a sporty Craftsman truck to change their allegiances to our Aussie utes - might be enough for GM to take a risk on exporting them.

D.R.T outside of a US New based New Zealander, myself and F1 that is it...all those replies are from the US or Canada. The other NASCAR only forums are all US respondents , I do not tend to post on all of them, only if they mention something about Australia.
No they would not be running on an oval. The US fans want them to run on a roadcourse.

There are 35 replies to the thread, most of which are you three (Oh, and LightTower4 and MabNSX are Aussies). A quick count of positive responses with there location filled out as North America gives FIVE unique users...

There are 46 votes in the poll...

Please explain how the posts relate to the votes???

That is easy, you do not have to post to vote. I guess it would be a lot of people browsing . There are not many Aussies as you point out on the site, but a lot more basically US and Canada vote.
This was intially on the NASCAR section, but was moved to the Motorsport Forums. There are precious few Aussies posting in the NASCAR forums...but it was 83% yes as against 17% No.

My point EXACTLY...so how do you know what nationality the votes come from?

If you re-read my post, I actually point out that there are 5 Australian/New Zealanders and 5 North Americans...the rest have not filled out there location. Precious few Australians? More like 50% on that thread!

As with almost every forum, most people do not fill out a location, and most people do not post...this does not stop them from voting though...

For all we know, all the positive votes could have come from non-North Americans, as even a positive post does not mean they necessarily voted...

Nice try...but it was on a NASCAR thread intially , so they were mainly US and Canadian visitors to the site. I notice you like to run V8Supercars down at the drop of a hat, so please give up. You did not read my other observation , that where there is No Aussie involvement on a forum there is positive reactions about the series. Also Dave Despain was getting a lot of emails from US fans about V8Supercar..that is why he made the statement on his TV segment that going from the positive responses it could be a substantial series in the US.
