Yet another challenge

Okay, there hasn't been a challenge for some time, so I thought I'd throw down the gauntlet. The enclosed map extract is of a real place, although I've concealed its identity by removing all the obvious locational clues (it's still pretty obvious to anyone who's ever been there). The original scale was 1:25000, but I have blown it up to 1.5 times its original size for ease of editing (1:16667). Colour coding of roads (for the non-British):
- blue = motorway
- red = other main roads ("A roads")
- yellow = minor roads

Parameters for the challenge:
1) You should keep your track entirely east of the motorway
2) However, you might have noticed the large car parks west of the motorway. There's also a railway station and an airport over there just out of shot. This is where your spectators will be coming from. You'll need to provide some way of them accessing the stands. Cantilevering stands over the motorway is allowed and even recommended.
3) You may not obstruct or obliterate any roads apart from the section of the yellow minor road between the two red A roads.
4) Those earthworks heading NNE-SSW are an abandoned railway - it might be fun to use it, but it's up to you.
5) The track should be suitable for one or (preferably) more top series.
6) Variants are always welcome.

lol i know where this is, i wont spoil it for others. BUT im pretty sure there is a dirt track near there already just a small 1 .....

I don't really think that is an edit as much as it is a new track bearing a resemblance to another track..Seriously, I don't see any more places where the track actually follows p's track besides the pit straight.

CG, well, obviously I prefer mine, but thats OK I guess. That big 'ol bend at the top should be fast

I never said they were bad tracks, I like both each have diffrent styles, my only problem is with both is they both go across the abandoned railway, which would mean alot of earth moving, especially for the pits .... but the acctuel circuits both are pretty flowing.

GoogleEarth is a really useful utility for sure!


Track length: 3.62 miles (5.8km)
Longest 'straight' (includes kink at turn 4): 1299m
Start/Finish straight is nearly 1000m

Pirenzo -

In some ways you've gone for the typical layout for a roughly triangular site, with the hairpin in the north corner (and by the neat use of a kink, you've got another in the south-east corner). Nevertheless, the flow is beautiful, and you worked in that 1.299km "straight" extremely well. Oh, and using that abandoned railway for access to the infield is inspired!

I also like the way you picked up on the variants thing. Once more, you've run with what's already on the site to split it nicely into two tracks. The eastern one looks particularly fun for the lower formulae.

Chaynes321 -

Is that a dragstrip I see straight down the middle?

Despite the passing resemblance to Pirenzo's track, your version is effectively totally different. You've avoided the urge to put a hairpin in the northern corner of the site very nicely - the variable radius corners at both ends of the straight that follows look very fun.

My initial reaction to the number of chicanes/esses was that it was verging on overkill, but it does provide a very nice contrast to the rest of the circuit (which looks very fast and flowing, especially in the short variant).

The last corner is probably the weakest. There are distinct airs of a certain cartoon character about it. Actually, it looks like you've well and truly hemmed yourself in there - it would be hard to suggest doing anything different.

Despite both circuits produced so far having only a passing resemblance to eachother, they do share one major flaw: spectator access. I drew attention to both the car parking and the railway station being west of the site. Given that it's conventional to put the main grandstands on the start/finish straight, having the start/finish straight on the extreme east of the site makes it a bit of a hike. (Of course, you may be thinking of doing something else with the grandstands).

Oh, and before I forget - well done, Pirenzo, on finding some decent satellite imagery!
