No 4 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
2006 Infiniti Pro Series.

Scot Mansell has raced in Infiniti Pro this season, is I believe intending to do a full season next year. His stable mate in the Morello International driver management group, Jamie Morrow (my son and hier!!) is next up. He will be testing with the Sam Schmidt team at the Kentucky Speedway on the 4th November. Come on the Brits!!!

No. 4, that's some pretty good news. Is this an indication that your plan is to change direction from European single seaters to a US series?

It would be good to see a Brit or two in IPS next year but I am wondering from what angle you would be looking to secure funding for a full season (should the opportunity come up)? Given that, more or less, IPS and GP2 require similar levels of budget, surely trying to make a shot at GP2 or Nissan/Renault/Dallara World Series would make a more attractive proposal to sponsors over here, given that there is a bit more coverage of these series than the IPS?

Cool, here's hoping the Nov 4th test goes well

If you want some additional alternatives on the US racing scene the revamped Formula Atlantic Series might be worth taking a look at.

Yes, I heard Mark was going for Star Mazda. Is that still the case. If yes, good luck to him.

Why Infinti Pro for Jamie, primarily because we have a better network of potential sponsors in the US. As simple as that.

TBH i think any racing next year will be the goal. There is only a certain amount of time you can spend in Monaco without getting frustrated with all the racing drivers living there

ya, IPS has by far the best TV deal of any feeder series in the US, with their races running tape delayed on ESPN2 and Atlantic races equally delayed on SPEED. IPS also gets feeder races for the 500 and USGP, which provides a big first-hand viewership base.

I reckon this thread is as good as any when it comes to the 2006 IPS Silly Season, so I'll post this in here rather than starting a new thread....

SpeedTV.com reports that Graham Rahal recently tested with Sam Schmidt Motorsports:

Quote:
Graham Rahal, the 16-year-old son of IndyCar team owner and former champion Bobby, completed his first test aboard a Menards Infiniti Pro Series car last week at the Putnam Park road course in Mount Meridian, Indiana.

Rahal, who won once en route to fourth in points in the Star Mazda championship this season, sampled a Dallara-Infiniti from Sam Schmidt Motorsports.

Graham Rahal was tested without the knowledge or permission of the IRL or the Pro Series. There is a big flap at the league office over this since you must be 18 to drive or test a Pro Series car and they didn't get permission to run the engine from the IRL who owns the engines.

I'll keep an eye out for Jamie's new website, No. 4. What kind of series has Jamie already raced in?
(Sorry if Jamie's previous experience has already been mentioned elsewhere!)

Daniel,

He won the 2001 Aintree Racing Drivers Scholarship (other winners include Paddy Hogan, Matt Howson and Joey Foster, who you may know from US Formula Ford) and since has driven in regional Formula Ford, national Formula Ford, ZIP Formula Ford and latterly Formula Renault. All UK series. He's also an instructor with Bentley, Porsche and at several UK circuits. Currently he's instructing/racing in the new Thuber Arabia single seater series in Bahrain.

Sounds like plenty of experience in different SS categories, No. 4. Can't wait to see some pictures of the test session.

So is anything going to happen as a result of the flap? You'd think that the potential PR benefits of having Graham in IPS and later in the IRL would surpass any slight caused by not asking if it was okay.

For a guy who says he isn't interested in OW, it seems odd to test a IPS car and his father sign up for a Atlantics car.

Seems the IPS test was just meant as a "feeler" in a more powerful car. Graham intends to race in the Formula Atlantics next year, since, as Team Owner mentioned, one has to be 18 years old to race in the Infinity Pro Series.

SpeedTV.com has a good interview with Graham here, which goes in-depth about his future plans etc.

I like this part:

Quote:
Q: Do you think Marco, “Just” Al Unser and you perhaps graduating to the big leagues at roughly the same time could help raise fan interest in open-wheel racing back to what it used to be?

“I definitely think it can help. I mean, will we be the next Danica Patrick? I think not, she’s a female in a male world and that generates a lot of attention. But our heritage could help with fan recognition, no doubt.

“Before that, though, I think we need to solve the split in our sport, get this situation sorted out. The way it is now, we might not even be able to help at all, because we may not be racing against each other in the same series…”
I sure wish more people were as sensible as that 16-year old...
