2007 Challenges for KK and friends

We all know how the 3 Amigos (KK in the drivers seat) pulled Champ Car out of the ashes to make the Champ Car we have today (better than I had ever hoped for). What are your top 5 challenges you would like to see happen in the 2007 season now that an interesting TV deal has been announced.

1. A Series sponsor
2. At least 22 cars at every race with less ride buyers.
3. New sponsors and ownership for teams with $$$ problems.
4. Prize money and year-end bonus increases which are a joke right now in the Champ Car Series. (Sam Hornish Jr. made 3 times more than Sébastien Bourdais this year and 5 other drivers made as much or more in the IRL in prize money).
5. All venues of 2007 return for 2008 with 3 new entries of which at least one (hopefully 2) is in the American North-East.

What are your top five?

1. A competitive American driver.
2. A return to at least one or two ovals.
3. A new title sponsor.
4. Stability with car sponsorship.
5. I have no reason to believe that the new Panoz will be a dog, but what happens if it is?

How would you define it as a "dog"?

It's a one-make series, so the car doesn't have any expectations to meet in a lot of ways, as everyone has the same thing.

1. Championship going right down to the wire
2. Over 20 cars
3. Over the 1.0 on the TV ratings, considering the IRL gets the 1.0 and less on ESPN / ABC already, maybe it could happen...
4. A few more North American drivers
5. Some great established road course festivals

1. 6 or more different winners.
2. 20+ cars everywhere
3. At least 2 races in September
4. Paul Tracy with a renewed attitude
5. A Champ Car / ALMS split ticket

PS-I saw the Panoz run at Road America and spoke with Roberto Moreno about it. I think it is safe to assume it is no dog.

Just give me close racing, passing, maybe a new zealand race (could have another combined V8/Indy weekend in Hamilton), and i think that would be about right.

It would be. I doubt it would happen but one could dream. But one should remember some of the best open wheel racing occured in NZ during the 60's, 70's and 80's with Tasman F1, F5000 and Formula Atlantic. Hamilton would never happen because V8 Supercars would never let champcar steal it's thunder. Taupo(where A1 GP runs) would be the only legitimate option in NZ at the moment for safety reasons. The old Wigram air force base at Christchurch would be fun(different series raced there before) but I'm sure the house owners across the street would have a cow.

Well in a year or two they could race at the new track at Hampton Downs!

Most of the deals for 2007 are pretty much set. I have some of the same hopes for the series as the first few posts..especially improvement in 1-ratings.... and 2-a title sponsor, since it`s still not too late for #2.

3- I`d like the DP01 to be all it`s said to be...mainly better racing, so more fans and viewers return.
4- I hope 2007 is the year that the international races finally get off the ground without the usual cancellations...I really want them to succeed because that`s where they would race on purpose built race tracks the most.... and we need more of those!
5- I want to see those standing starts !!...but not at all the events...diversify series as it should be.

Well that`s 2007. I still think they need to balance the heavy western U.S. schedule with some east coast racing... and a return to warm weather starts in Florida

I'd love to go back to Michigan and/or Fontana, but that's not a 2007 thing. I'd settle for bigger fields and close racing (with passing for the lead, unlike F1).

Does the Panoz car even support oval racing? More realistic targets are a 1.0 rating, at least 3/4 US drivers in the field, and some sustainable international events.

Amar7605 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
1. At least 22 cars, of which 3 or 4 are competitive American drivers
2. Higher TV ratings and an effort to rebuild a TV audience
3. Stable circuts so that there is a consistent schedule for at least 5 years
4. Make Champ Car an appealing career destination for drivers, not merely a stepping stone to NASCAR or Formula 1
5. If Long Beach is the signature race, promote it so that it is on par with the Indy 500, Daytona 500, or the Monaco GP. Also, give a really big prize for winning it.
