Sportscar/GT (and Le Mans) Rumours and Repetition
RLM were just talking to Kaeffer about the Pecom Lola .
Kaeffer said that the idea was to run with a Ferrari engine , but there just wasnt the time to get it done . Possibily next year then ? |

Another interesting rumour I heard on RLM is of a 911 surpassing midengined Porsche...
Sounds logicall since the 911 is about as far streched as possible. |

I think you're probably right about the 911 having reached its limit - but I remember similar stories writing off the 911 in the late Seventies/early Eighties....

And I think every Sebring, LM, PLM has had the RLM guys talking about whether it was time for Porsche to put the 911 out to pasture and develop the Cayman for GT2.

Probably. Level 5 and the rumored Rob Kauffman/Michael Waltrip team are also rumored to be interested in the Ferrari LMP2 engine. Who knows where the Waltrip team will end up though and I have a feeling that Level 5 may try to move up to LMP1 at some point, but who knows.

So far Porsche never wanted to use the Cayman in racing. It made even live hard for teams that wanted to race it.

Yes Arakis, but the word is that there will be a mid-engined car placed between the 911 and the 918. This car will not include all the hybrid malarkey, so it will indeed be eligible for GTE.

ok, that would IMO suck big time, the 911 is a legend, and for it to be retired just doesent make any sense to me.
at worst they are below of a second slower then the leading pack in the GTE, thats on normal 90 second tracks. And thats with a 5 year old racecar, based on a 6-7 year old chassis, and a almost 20 year old engine. and thats without any waivers like corvettes and BMWs. Seriosly the 991 gt3 RSR would be more then enough to eliminate that gap. If they do build a car between the 911 and 918, that would be awsome, but IMO the 911 should stay the GTE contender for porsche if for nothing else for the tradition off it. |

The word is also that the 991 GT3 will have the new 9A1 engine, which as you know is not a full dry sump engine , and therefore not an appropriate engine for racing. - These are all still rumors. Nothing has yet been confirmed, but.....

If a Ferrari LMP, even engine option, is available, I'm sure you'd see plenty competing.
If nothing solid is reported this week, I don't think it's happening. |

Thought Ferrari had said they couldn't turn out enough engines to build 458GTs to fulfill orders, never mind extras for any LMP projects. How long would it take for either Ferrari or a team to build up and test the engine for an LMP application?
