Yes. Picchio has received the label " Official Daytona Prototype Constructor".
Only one car confirmed at the moment though.

Which engine will Rafanelli use? BMW or the Maserati?

Maserati could make sense. GA would be cheaper than ALMS, and due to the NASCAR-Drivers it could be interesting for a larger public. On the otherside, however, the ALMS is more interesting for the importcar- drivers...

It was said within the last week, that the changes Rafanelli had made to the Picchio were outside of what GrandAm would allow, and that the car would be illegal to run.

Burd was the source, and a pretty reliable individual on things GrandAm. I don't know what this means for the future of this possible entrant.

Well, obviously there's no point in Rafanelli having a car they can't race is there?

Just to clarify a bit, what I said was that Rafanelli is going to have to run the old Picchio DP2 (the same gen that G&W ran in 2003) instead of Picchio's entirely new DP3 that they were working on. The DP2 was quite the dog early on, but from what I understand, Picchio as gone back and tried to make some changes (within the rules hopefully) to the chassis/bodywork on this model after being told that the DP3 was a no go...

That is interesting. I heard the same thing about 8 months ago before Rafanelli even signed on with Picchio. The factory had made a changes to the car and wanted to slate it a DP3 as opposed to a DP2. GA didn't think some of the changes fell within the letter of the rules so it was back to the drawing board for Picchio.
If there was an issue with improvements Raffanelli made to the car, I don't think it would be enough to keep them from appearing in 05'.

Raffanelli hasn't made any changes to the car because I don't think he even has it yet. The unapproved changes are strictly regarding the Picchio DP3, which was to be a completely different car than the DP2.

On today's Sport Auto Moto, Rafanelli denies having found an agreement with Picchio. Says he's been offeread the car but that he's not interested and that he might do something in Fia Gt with a 575.
