So who is in with a chance at Jordan and Minardi?

OK, season starts soon and there are three seats left. One at Minardi and two at Jordan. Williams and Red Bull have their drivers signed, just who and where is to be decided.

So I've got a little bit of a list together for who is in with a shot at either of the three seats. Feel free to add any on that you think have a chance.

JORDAN
T Glock
R Doornbos
J Verstappen
M Dominguez (if Midland rumour are true, rumour has it Dominguez will drive)

MINARDI
G Pantano
Z Baumgartner
J Verstappen
F Montagny

Is that all?

(bold indicates likely driver/s)

Christijan Albers has already signed for Minardi.

I expect Zsolt to get the second seat.

Doornbos is at very good odds to be in one Jordan seat. The other will most likely be either Glock or Dominguez ..... depending on team ownership.

Montagny and Albjers at Minardi is a very good combination - pacey, yet funded drivers, who could just bump a tardy Jordan off the penultimate row in a similar way to Alonso, Webber and Wilson occasionally managed to get further up the grid than expected.

Zsolt is not going to get the seat at Minardi because he does not have the finances. He is trying for a testdriver role with anybody who would be interested in him and he also looks at CART.

It wouldn't be a surprise if Glock is the most experienced driver across the two teams - Glock and Doornbos and Jordan, and Albers and maybe Montiero at Minardi. None of the main contenders look like superstars, but the likely Jordan guys are at elast people who can hold their own and could, in the right situation and in the long term, be a reasonable #2 to someone like Michael.

Im going with:

Jordan:

Timo Glock
Mario Domininguez

Minardi:

Christian Albers
Frank Montagny

Why would Toyota let the Renault tester gain an inside look at there engine in the Jordan ??

He has tested for minardi in the past hasnt he ?

My guess would be:
Jordan: Doornbos and Montagny (Glock or Baumgartner as a tester)
Minardi: Albers and Kiesa (Van Hooydonk as a tester)

Fact is the second seat at Minardi could go to anyone at the moment. I've got a test at Misano next Tuesday.

What a coincidence mac, so do I!

Stoddy likes those rich guys who pay to drive a car...

Channock Nissany, honestly, what is he 45?

Skam85 only 40 :-). Oh one more thing, he started racing 3 years ago. Probably 60% of this forum would be faster than him in any car :-). Anyway, money makes the talking...

Would Nissany really get a superlicense? He's Jewish, Bernie's Jewish - a bit of a favour here?

Glock and Dominguez at Jordan would be okay. Out of the realistic candidates to partner Albers, Jos or Zsolt would be ideal.

I don't know if Bernie's Jewish or not - but I don't think there's any need for that sort of allegation.

Licences are the FIA's department, in any a case.

Mr Nissany would not get a superlicence, I believe.

He's not in contention for a Minardi seat anyway - these are basically pay a team some money and get a play with an F1 car type deals.

Nissany is a very intelligent 42year old entrepreneur who has made money in the civil construction business in Hungary in the last 10years and has structured his business in such a way to go for his lifelong ambition to go racing. He is very realistic about his targets in racing and is physically in shape as much if not more than the current bunch of 20+years old F3000, etc. racing drivers. He is not the only driver in motorsports that lacks the talent of Michael Schumacher but at least Chanoch realizes his limits very clearly. In a F3000 car on a circuit he knows he will go 2.7secs slower than his reference Patrick Friesacher (which MAY BE 1% of the forum would be able to match and not 60%). And unlike many of the professional racing drivers he DOES pay for his driving and in doing so contributes for the team to survive. Whilst being at Coloni he did exactly what he was told to do whilst testing and behaved more professionally than many young drivers that came for testing. So WHAT is wrong if a well funded individual is living out his dreams?

No need to bring religion into it.

Nothing, it is a business deal between him and Minardi.

However, testing an F1 car is one thing - racing in F1 is another - which I think is the point that was being made.

2.7 seconds off Friesacher isn't disgraceful, but Patrick probably isn't good enoguh for F1 himself, and he at least has potential to improve. I really hope Attila is wrong about the level of Baumgartner's funding, he did very well as a rookie and deserves a chance to build on that. How much do Leinders or Montiero have to bring to the table?

Baumgartner's management are quoted on Autosport.com as saying he will not be at Minardi this season.

It's easy to have the potential to improve when you're that much slower than the other guys who've driven the car

I meant that Friesacher does (being much younger), rather than Nissany.

Really can`t make my mind up about the Jordan seats, can`t believe that Glock is going to be team leader though, surely not, as for the Minardi drive, of the names being linked to the seat i would hope that Montagny gets it but i also think that Friesacher would do a good job, certainly both would get the better of Albers.

Jordan have potential this year with their Toyot engines and more money. I sincerely hope they make the right driver choices. Pity Ant won't drive for them. Maybe a McNish?
