Friday practice thread
Bimey , Schumacher just came out and blitzed the Mclarens by 1.6 seconds straight away ....although Pedro has came back with a better time now , he is still quickest ..
Michael looked right on it at maximum attack all the way round ...locking up , oversteer etc ...very exciting . Looks like Michael is all fired up and trying very hard . just how F1 should be . Last edited by Sato san; 22 Apr 2005 at 09:35. |

Yes, but what does practice show these days, it's the first time I've followed practice on Live Timing this year. For most of the session, only the 3rd drivers and lowly teams had any presence. Look at the differential in the number of laps, Renault manged 3 laps in total!!
Why, for practice, do the teams have to use their race engines, can't they use other engines and at least put on a show for the poor mugs who have paid $$$ to actually watch the GP ? Surely this would give a better indicator of who's where in the performance stakes, plus teams would get better set-up's, tyre info, etc, and there wouldn't really be a significant cost increase, as teams have spare engines already, this way the poor old fans might even get to see something !! I know it'll not happen, but back in the 80's, team had special quali engines and had no problem changing to race engines overnight, it can't take more than an hour or two for an engine change ?? Any thoughts ??? |

Any news on the two Renaults?
(There's no time shown for them on the live timing site). |

While the fact that people aren't running is important it is discussed elsewhere a lot. What does the non-running show us with respect for this weekend?
Well it seriously hints that Renault are worried (or very cautious) about reliability. |

Seems like they're just saving their engines.

again, the new rules providing poor show for both fans trackside and on TV - no one can argue that no shows on track are good. |

a mClaren and Toyota tester 1-2, then Button and Schuey quite close. Klien best of rest nearly 3/4 second off...
I suspect Schu being flamboyant for the fans...what does Rubens time tell us ensconsed back in the pack? |

Rubens didnt look as good...he had an off at Tamberello and went through the gravel ...Kimi did exactly what Michael had done , and came straight out of the box on maximum attack ...the other all built up steadily to their times..apart from Jenson at the end .

Yes Michael looked really charged up...going flat out like a rookie looking to make an impression...
From what i saw Jenson Button and BAR looked pretty handy...which is good news... the Toyota drivers and the Renaults will/should be running in session 2 which will give a clearer indication... |

funny as I read that JB was just setting all the purples in session 2 and went to the top for now. I reckon they'll qualify well here. |

Please do not try and just mindlessly destroy threads. This thread is about Friday practice.
Thanks. |

Dani, well ther are hardly using anything at the moment! Although that is certainly an interesting wing - it will be interesting (for us and the team) to find out if it does make a difference!
sonic, I can't remember so little tunning (through choice) quite as drastic. Last edited by Adam43; 22 Apr 2005 at 12:26. |

I am wondering if it might be prudent of Renault to change Alonso's engine before the race, I bet the Bahrain engines are on the edge in terms of thermal damage, why not change the engine and save the risk of dropping out of the race?
Of course this then means 10 places back on the grid, but better than not finishing... |

Maybe they feel that limited running would provide the required safeguard and give them a new engine next race - in Spain.

Sato and Button have run nearly 27 laps each, the highest amongst the race drivers. It definitely looks like Honda have got the reliabilty problem sorted!
