Exact quote: "I think a GT3 car needs professional teams, a good combination of really good am drivers and pro drivers. Cost-wise, it was always expensive to race. I think GT4 will be the new GT3."

To be honest I believe this statement was more about the level of GT4 and not so much the costs. In 2006 GT3 was started "to provide competition for more amateur racers in closer to production cars".

This is what GT4 is nowadays, whereas GT3 is nowhere near that anymore.

GT3 and GT4 should be renamed GTR and GTS.

You know, for Stephane Ratel.

GT3 has become GT1 levels of commitment and prices. Again, what was the reason the GT1 died? Oh yeah, costs ...

GT1 was a development class that encouraged factory teams though. GT3s is a BoP Class that encourages private teams. Whilst the costs of GT3 are huge, they aren't up at GT1 class levels.

Details to follow later, but 30 cars for the season opener at Misano should be possible.

Any idea how many teams will do the cross-over rounds between the Northern and Southern Cups? I'm at around 5 or so right now, but I hope there'll be more than that...

Hard to say, as Misano isn't mandatory to race at in order to fight for the overall title. Brands Hatch in May, Zandvoort in August and the Nurburgring in September are.

At Misano there will be some teams from the Southern Cup though, CD Sport one of them.

And as I type this it seems 30+ is now likely ;-)

It was a quite good race. Much more interesting/entertaining than the BSS race in my opinion.

Hope to see some Mustangs and Camaros over there too eventually.

Race 2 was really good. The KTMs threw it away. They had a 1-2-3 about 15mins before the end. Two of them collided with each other and one passed the safety car and got black flagged.

Judging from result lists (I did not see the races), the Maserati cars seem to have been a bit off pace. Any ideas why? They were quite competitive last year.

I think most of them are full-on amateur line-ups, so they are of course at a disadvantage vs the pro/am-teams at the front of the field.
