I love the smell of the fumes from a karting track. Although the clothes afterward is a problem. I have only been to outdoor tracks so I couldn't say about indoor. Sure, it smells good maybe the first 15 minutes, but after a while it starts to get uncomfortable. I can't imagine how bad it would be at an indoor track.

Its bad Woody and as a contact lens wearer the fumes make my eyes red! On an enduro event I have also sometimes ended the day feeling as though I have had a stiff drink! It must be the accumulation of all the exhaust fumes... Even on a cold winters night, I once went to a local indoor track and found they raced with large double doors wide open at one end. It was bloody cold but at least the air remained crisp!

I've got used to indoor tracks, however when i first went when i was 8 i couldn't believe the smell, it was HORRIBLE!!

I only race outdoors now and have'nt done any indoor stuff for over a year. The two stroke karts on outdoor tracks are not as bad, they smell like beef burgers.........hmmmmmmmm beeeeeeef buuuurgeeers....

Sorry, went a bit off topic there!

shiny side up! should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I raced on an indoor oval (<9 seconds per lap, get a little dizzy in a 50 lap race!), and they were fairly lax with the fuel regs, so some people chose to run a bit of nitromethane mixed with their methanol... the fumes were so bad on the grid and parade lap that my eyes were watering!! At speed it never bothered me, either from the movement or adrenaline, don't know which...

Is it just me then that thinks Two Stroke fumes smell a bit funny? Oh and by the way, you think indoor 4/ karts (cadet normally) are fumey! You should see what 2/ Junior TKM's are like. I race Junior Max and Junior TKM Intermidiates start on a delay behind us, when it comes to lapping them, MY GOD!!!! THOSE KARTS ARE FUMEY!!

i think people are gettimng a little mixed up here.
4 stroke generator motors strapped onto a kart for indoor use has a complete different smell to that of say,,, an ICA 19,500rpm tuned to the balls 2 stroke motor.

in my opinion, they smell:
4stroke indoor = horrid
2stroke outdoor = heaven
