Thunder in the Park Tom Wheatcroft
I have just finished reading Tom Wheatcroft's book 'Thunder in the Park' and I can thoroughly recommend it as a very good read. It is written as you would expect from Tom, blunt and to the point even earthy on ocassion, (don't let the Mother-in-Law get her hands on it.) I must admit that I thought it would be pretty boring but I found it hard to put down as it is full of anecdotes about well know motor sport types and is a real eye opener on the collectors of historic cars.
Tom starts at the beginning and relate his life story from his earliest years up until mid 2005 and it is fascinating stuff, warts and all, his early career in the building industry, his World War experiences (worth reading for that alone) and his many brushes with officialdom as he built up his business.
Lots of detail about the cars he has driven and collected and crashed on a regular basis. It reveals a very human side of a man most only know as the owner of Donington.
Do get hold of a copy it would be an ideal Christmas present for any motor racing fan and his wife.
