Digital SLR's and rain?

Up at Donnington for the Seat Cupra round this afternoon. Shooting with a Nikon D70 when the heavens opened. Fled back to the car ASAP. What do other people do to protect Digital SLR’s from the rain. I have had two digital cameras destroyed by wet weather ( OK a Fuji 401 and a Fuji S602) Both kept inside a gortex jkt. Am I being over cautious? Are the Nikon pro cameras better in the wet or can you but waterproof covers for cameras and lenses?

Cheers

Rich
