Decided to take the plunge and get a prime lens...advice please.

I'm starting to think I need to stop looking at consumer level zooms that try and do everything for a cheap price, and start getting a few quality lenses. I'm particularly tempted by this one,

which I should be able to test in a week or so.

Also, I was thinking of perhaps a 1.4x TC to go with it, for some of the bigger circuits, like Silverstone.

I'm new to this sort of thing, and I'd still like a decent zoom for closer stuff, and a good closeup lens aswell, for the pits etc., so any opinions, advice etc. would be appreciated.

Budget is approx 1,000 pounds.
