The Australian missed out on the second Minardi seat to Alex Yoong late this season and Paul Stoddart, the Minardi team boss said that this was down to the management of Flavio Briatore being too involved in decision making, Stoddart's comments were highlighted recently as Fernando Alonso - also managed by Briatore - was signed to Renault for 2002 as a test driver.

Reports in the Italian press this week stated that Webber has signed a deal with Minardi, but Stoddart denies this: "It is absolutely not true.

"He is one of a number of drivers to whom we are talking and there is no likelihood of a driver announcement for some time. There is no need to rush it."}
