Wollek, Bob
just having a quick glance at the driver files, and noticed one of the greats of sportscar racing was missing! So, let's add Bob Wollek.
Perenially unlucky, witness many of his Le Mans entries, but always good entertainment, and sadly killed on his bicycle in 2001, preparing for that year's Sebring 12 hours. in thrity attempts, he never won le mans; though i reckon he deserved to, and i'm sure i'm not alone in that opinion. Aside from racing, he owned a Jag dealership, and apparently won three world skiing titles! in '65, '66 and '68. There goes Luc Alphand's novelty But in all; Bob Wollek was a Porsche driver, and a very good one at that. His heyday was Group C, but he raced both before and after; and definitely a man who deserves to be in the driver files! |
