Electric Power Steering

I want to add electric power steering to my car.

I think there are just two ways to do this: 1) a powered column and 2) a power steering rack with an electric pump.

Has anyone experience of either or both of these systems? What are the pros and cons of each option?

If anyone knows the current typically drawn by a pump (say Peugeout 106) and a column (say a Fiat one) that would also be useful.

Thanks
