The scanner mega-thread

Let me say straight away that I'm a PC, mainly at Brands, but I do wander. However, I very rarely visit Silverstone and I've never been an IO. So no axe to grind. I can understand why some IO's are worried about the use/abuse of scanners. Once S hits the F they are responsible for anyone who goes on the noisy side of the armco. Therefore he/she has to be confident that he can trust their team to perform. Nicetities are out of the window, lives could be at risk. Would you like that on your conscience? Having said that, a bit of give-and-take goes a long way in team building. When I give my morning briefing I underline the fact that your IO is the boss on the other side of the armco. I'm off to Combe tomorrow...with my scanner. I'll ask my IO's opinion (or is that a "Oh Arrrrr" in Wiltshire?
