2014 British Formula Ford - What's going on?
Currently the British Formula Ford series is a shadow of it's former self. After good grids at the end of the Duratec era, the introduction of the new EcoBoost car for 2012, whilst still allowing the older Duratecs to race, caused Duratec numbers (and driver quality) to dwindle, whilst the EcoBoosts didn't attract that many drivers. In 2013 the series opted to become a 'slicks and wings' category of racing - almost replacing the defunct Formula Renault UK series. Whilst grid numbers for the EcoBoost cars have increased slightly, numbers are hardly into double figures.
So what for 2014? Ford have been in talks with the FIA, and may well adopt their FIA Formula 4 regulations. Whilst this may help some teams, imagine how Sinter feel. They've developed an EcoBoost car for this season, and it wouldn't exactly be good for them if they only race it for one season. And Renault (who know a thing or two about junior single-seater racing, actually) claim that the F4 initiative is not cost effective at all. WHAT HAPPENED? |
