Right, but that does not guarantee that motorsport survives as a spectator sport. If all that most drivers and teams are willing and able to pay for are development frozen spec cars, that might be good enough for them, but it's not something that I would travel 100s of miles and spend a considerable proportion of my income to see. And maybe that's fine for the guys that drive the cars, I'm sure it's a ton of fun to blast around Spa, the Nordschleife or Road America no matter if the stands are empty or full. But from my - admittedly egoistic and entitled - perspective as a fan, I'm really hoping that this won't be the case and we'll see rules that produce cars that are worth watching in sufficient numbers to fill the grids.
