Why did Montoya Retire?
I Know he said the suspension was damaged after that puncture but he jumped out of that Williams before the mechanics could even get to the rear of the car. How could he tell it wasn't just a puncture. Body language tells me that he just bailed from a difficult situation, especially considering relations between himself and Sam Michael are at an all time low.

No, he was in the car for a short while after stopping, the team confirmed both the right rear suspension and the rear wing had damage.

We only saw the end of the pitstop - the team had already looekd at the back of the car and spotted the damage. JPM can be forgiven for feelign somewhat resigned at a problem like this - he's had a grotty season, isn't fighting for any kind of championship position, proved himself imrpessively on the day, and is unboubtedly looking to 2005.
