What a waste of time! Or maybe im not getting it? I thought the idea of this event was to recreate the fantastic rally it use to be. Not some rally that goes to wales for 3 days and reruns the same stages over and over. I thought they were ment to be bringing back the classics like Dalby forest and kielder and the mickey mouse stages. Must say very dissapointed!!

Madcowie, your not getting it. Its basically road rallying. A activity thats well boring to watch but fun to compete in. Thing your confusing it with the RAC Roger Albert Clark rally thats running this weekend. A event based on the old RAC ie covering forests in Yorkshire, Kielder and Scotland etc all run to stage rally format.

I marshalled one of the stages for this event.
went off to post,
no radio
no fire bottle
and then when the 1st car came past...
no crash helmets.

is this normal for a tarmac stage rally not to wear crash helmets,if so,1st time i`ve seen it.

not the most exciting thing to watch, but have seen worse.
but wouldn`t rush to pay to see it.
was going to do the newport stage, but i think i`m doing something, not to sure, but i`ll think of summit

I think there is a bit of confusion between the Lombard Rally & the Roger Albert Clark Rally.
The Lombard in an endurance road rally. It is totally different to stage rallying.
here is a link to explain a bit about endurance rallying Click Here

Silver,thanks for that.
But i still can`t understand why the wearing of a crash helmet seemed optional.
even at low speeds an accident is possible

I think some are missing the point It's a big challenge, mentally and physically.

gachjoel from what I understand helmets are being worn on certain selectifs - they were at Gaydon [the start] but not sure about what's happening in the Welsh forests - I just know it's very wet!

Yes very uncomfortable with this event. Road rally in the forests?
Very little safety cover.

Well done to Owen Turner and Andy Ballantyne who won the event.

gachjoel I'm not sure where you were, but I saw some pics of some of the forest selectifs / stages last night and helmets were being worn.

I've only seen one pic from there and that was Matt Fowle up a bank.....and couldn't really see his face.

Although you were helmets for sprints, it's not common in gymkhanas or autosolos for example which are similar....
