This would mean that Minardi could get the Ferrari engines....but it would also mean that they would have to stick with Mazzacane

Keep Mazzecane if it means a Ferrari engine! That is one hell of a deal. But I'm not going to get too excited, these things never seem to go the way I want.

I find it baffling that this is seen as good news. Its good news like BAR buying out Ken Tyrrell - ie some of the last racers on the grid are being forced out by the ridiculously inhibitive costs involved in F1 at the moment.

Well you're right Agnst. I remember declarations by Ken Tryrrel at the 98 Goodwood festival. When he was asked about the reasons for the "departure" of the Tyrrel team he remembered his first days when his budget was of about 100 thousand dollars but he also said that if nowadays you don't have at least 60 million dollars you're not going to do anything in F1.

Minardi fan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
This is a more in-depth story, from Planet F1:

Minardi linked with new
buy-out

July 20: "Italy's other Formula One team linked
with American media group.

As Minardi test at Mugello, there are rumours
doing the rounds to the effect that the Faenza
based outfit is likely to be bought out by the
American media group PSN.

Regular readers will be well aware that Planet F1
has a soft spot for Gian Carlo and his team, who
despite the fact that the odds are stacked heavily
against them still manage to retain their
enthusiasm and (more importantly) their passion
for the sport.

PSN (Pan American Sports Network) a 24-hour
sports cable and satellite digital television network
already sponsors Minardi, however it's believed
that the company aims to increase its stake.

Earlier this year, another Minardi sponsor
Telefonica came close to purchasing the team,
even going to the lengths of attempting to 'source'
a new factory in Spain, however the deal fell
through.

Last week, technical director Gustav Brunner
admitted that despite tempting offers from rival
teams he was committed to the Minardi dream.

Despite the fact that the Fondmetal (Ford) engine
is hopelessly outclassed and outdated, Brunner
and his team have come up with an excellent
chassis with the M02 slowly (but surely) closing the
gap to its rivals.

Minardi have yet to secure an engine deal for 2001
however various names have been linked with the
team in recent weeks including Ferrari (Petronas),
Peugeot and Mugen-Honda. We're sure that with
the right power-plant, Marc Gene could seriously
embarrass some of his team's better funded rivals."

What concerns me is whether Minardi keep their name or not - I'm certain they will because Mr. Minardi stated that he would not sell out their name. Bernie himself has also stated he will not let the Minardi name disappear from the grid.

Also, Mazzacane is likely to stay anyway.

In addition to this, I believe this could be the same US group who have already secured rights to this year's Cosworth engines. However, with the money from such a buyout, I think Minardi would go for the Ferrari or Supertec engines.

I don't think they're the same people. I've never heard of PSN being related to anything from the US. As I understand they're from latin america. Argentina and Brazil to be prescise.

Anyway, I would also like to see Minardi with a better engine. I'm sure that "Marc Gene could seriously
embarrass some of his team's better funded rivals"
