Now I'm wondering why the #8 did quite a few more laps than the #7 yet the 7 ran out of fuel on pit road. Did they screw up and short fill the 7?

Commentators overthinking the Porsche aborted call. They aborted because they were committed when FCY was announced. Then they cut out so they could stop under FCY.
Not sure if that's legal. |

This race could really use some rain.

So will #8 ever get a break with traffic!?

Unless the Porsche's screw up, I doubt that Audi will win this one. #8 isn't a good in traffic and they're still screwed by having less range on fuel and longer fill times.

#8 got a break now--#1 Porsche has been handed a stop and go penalty.

Stop go for the 1 will still end up better off than they would've talking that stop under green.

Duval needs to pick up the pace--both Porsches have been faster than him most of the time since the #1's penalty. Even Sarrazin has been faster on several laps.

Maybe Duval is experiencing whatever tyre problem Lotterer had earlier on.
Pickup has been a big issue for the R18, and I don't think there is another WEC race with as much off-line time as this one. |

Ford and Ferrari are no where, at a track where they should've dominated. I'd expect the bop discussion to be raised again.

I'm struggling to explain to myself how EoT can lead to a consistently longer stop to fill a smaller tank. Surely taking the same time to fill a smaller tank that contains the same amount of energy is equivalent? Whatever.
Audi hasn't seemed to catch a break in traffic all race, but they also don't seem to be able to process it as rapidly so it's not all luck. Porsche continues to race better despite Audi appearing to have the outright fastest car in optimal conditions or short runs. |

Audi is fast over a lap. Porsche is fast over a stint. The pit stops however are just silly.

Rain reported on pit lane.
Edit - Rain advisory from race control, Hartley reeling in Duval. |

The only way I can see Audi having a decisive advantage right now if it it gets wet enough to run some type of rain tire. Audi have seemed to be better than Porsche so far on damp tracks outside of LM, and even at LM during the race.

Interesting - Hartley decided not to double dip on the pit straight and stayed behind Duval through S1.
Hartley takes the lead into the stadium, then makes an excellent move under the Larbre Corvette to gap Duval. |
