And bear in mind you don't immediately need to dive right into everything being bright orange.
I did my first few meetings in my ordinary outdoor walking gear (just make sure it's not red or yellow - important flag colours !). That and a cheap pair of welding gloves will get you going. You can do a few meetings, wait until you're certain marshalling is going to stick with you, while saving up for the proper gear. Steve |

(goes to look at prices) - they're a lot more expensive now than they were when I bought mine! |

At the beginning of the season when I got my MSA card in the post it was accompanied with a high vis orange trainee marshals tabard. Why not just wear that over suitable outdoor clothing to start with.
Once you are hooked, like I quickly was, go for the AWS probans. When you claim back your BMMC subsidy of £40 a set of GPX overalls will cost you £20. Andy R. |

I'm not sure if this is completely relevant, but when I have attended race meetings this year (in a non-working capacity due to ill-health) and therefore dressed in mufti, I have felt really out of place. Wearing my orange probans not only makes me feel part of the team but gets you respect from competitors and spectators alike.
BTW: Magneton's post should be published in all regional newsletters and in that MSA publication as well. Brilliant! |
