I did hear recently the cost of hiring Brands Hatch, lets just say it makes Lydden's fee look very reasonable.

Entry fees are never going to be cheap in Motorsport. It's a fact of life, if people are getting increasingly upset over entry fee's. Then don't race in the MSA championship, go race at national/clubman level.

Get over it, you pay for what you get. Too much whinging going on in this forum at the moment.

im not whinging just a comment on how in 2 years the entry fee has gone up 100% ,just seems a little excessive !

As has already been said, the cost of circuit hire and insurance is the big killer, i know insurance over here was something like 2,000 euro this year next year is shaping upto 3,500 from 1,750 years previous.

I personaly wouldnt mind if entry fees went from 160 - 200, as long as there was some form of decent prises apart from an ashtray (i dont smoke) and a whiskey glass (i dont drink).

british rallycross could be that expensive for a number of reasons, perhaps back a few years ago when entry fees were resonable there was alot of money being made, so championship runners decided to make the championship more appealing for outsiders and do promo videos and stuff which costs money. In doing this overheads increase. However when people started leaving and crowds getting smaller the income at disposal before on the current entry fees didnt cut the overheads, which combined with increased circuit hire and insurances have caused this to double.

I would force a training program of some sort where joe bloggs who gets trained on how to drive in a rallycross would be more safter, therefore for an insurance point of view maybe costs could be cut. Like advanced driving courses with your own Road Insurance.

Please can someone give a breakdown of say Lyddens costs to run a meeting. What happens to this £10,000 I assume that they have to pay the RAC for a licience and for annual track inspections, track mainteneance, rates staff etc, but £10,000 does seem excessive. Is it a case of the organisers not negotiating a good enough deal. If the BRDA offered say £7,000 for a meeting or they would go to Blighton then surely Lydden would accept as £7,000 is better than nothing. Or, as i suspect the a large proportion of the money is going to the RAC. If this is the case should Rallycross move away from the RAC. The majority of speedworth drivers get free entry's and lots get start money. How much did the Stock Car drivers may for there entry's at the recent Stock Hatch v Stock car challange.

Lydden costs

Winnie -

I believe the track hire for Lydden is £6500 per day - don't know how much insurance & other costs are, just that the total exceeds £10k.

The entry fee for the Stock Hatch vs. Stock Rod Challenge was £60. On that day there was racing for various circuit racing classes on the full circuit in the morning, with Oval racing in the afternoon, so the Oval racers were only paying for half a day's hire. Also there were a hell of a lot of cars racing - over 100 I'd guess. So half-day costs split 100 ways is very reasonable.

The problem for Rallycross is that a full day's costs have to be split between a lot fewer cars, less than 50 at the July BTRDA meeting, paying £150 each. I believe TWMC lost about £3.5k!!

Was that over the two days or just the Sunday as they had a weekend event, of racing on the Saturday, cycle racing on the Sunday morning followed by a classic car cavalcade and finally rallycross in the afternoon watched by a very small paying audience which probably earned them less than £1k at the gate.

I'm talking about the meeting on 11th September - you seem to be talking about the weekend of the first leg of the Challenge back in February.

I was refering to the last part of your posting regarding the BTRDA meeting on the 11th July.
Seems to me that a balance has to be found between all the different needs of the groups involved, circuit owners, drivers and spectators.
Owners need to provide adequate facilities at affordable prices, drivers need to be able to afford to race in sufficient numbers to make an interesting and exciting spectacle for the paying public and the spectators have to be prepared to turn out and pay to watch what I consider to be the most exciting form of motor sport there is.
We are all reliant upon each other at the end of the day, if one part fails we all ultimately fall.

I think a bit of Transparency would go a long way in this situation. I think what would annoy most people is exactly where there money is going. If the BRDA is run on behalf of the "Drivers" then why all the secrecy. Would it not be better to give a break down of the figures to everyone on how much it costs to run an event. Then you could see where the money is going and it would stop speculation dead in its tracks.
I could be well wide of the mark here as I'm not A BRDA Member and I can only go on what was said before. But I have seen the same arguements crop up in many different organisations before. Especially as someone said about the entry fees for forestry events.

Sensible chap that spectator.

Couple of points;

no organiser can count on gate receipts which normally are solely for the circuits pockets (along with the circuit hire).

The BRDA accounts have to be passed at the AGM and all members have the opportunity to post questions about them. All questions have to be submitted in writting as most such queries normally need a little work to give accurate answers.

It is a very sad fact of motorsport life at the moment that all costs are increasing, making it harder and harder for organisers to make ends meet. It's the hardest job in the world to keep everyone happy, i.e keeping entry fees down, TV coverage and racing at the best circuits, something somewhere has to give sometimes. (Now where's my lottery ticket!)

I agree about the acounts being passed at the agm but i am a excutive for simiular group of members who are located worldwide so we too present our accounts at the agm (broken down) but also have to publish them to all our members (as its a liitle dificult to get all members to the AGM) if this was done then every one would know were the money goes and justify the entry costs.
