according to one of our 10-10th V8 series forum buddies, Rick Kelly from the V8 supercar series (aka the best damn series in the world) is going to do a one off at the Glen CUP race this year. a quick search finds mostly forum talk, but the #83 RedBull ride has been mentioned....

The native Long Islander scored two wins in the Cup series, most memorable was the win at the Rock the week after his employer passed on the last lap of the Daytona 500. He has had more than a handful nasty and strange accidents that has hampered his career. since 2003, his last Cup start, he has won a Truck race at Fontana and has spent most of his time in the NASCAR East series, where he has scored only a handful of wins.

Looks like Dusty Whitney may have bought Finch's Cup operation...in addition to attaining a sponsor.
#46 has sponsor for four races?: Whitney Motorsports facebook page reports "We have a 4-race sponsor deal with major sponsor. Tracks are, Daytona, Brickyard, Phoenix, and Homestead-Miami." J.J. Yeley currently drives the #46 Dodge for Whitney Motorsports. No word on who the sponsor is. Also the #09 Chevy that Terry Cook is driving for Phoenix Racing is listed as the Whitney Motorsports Chevrolet on the entry list. The #09 team is up for sale, no word if Whitney Motorsports has bought it.(6-4-2010) |

Oh, I see. Sony don't want you to hear any of their artists on the grounds that you might want to buy their records. The sooner those brainless parasites are wiped off the planet the better.
Let's try this. |

so Ambrose testing J.Gordon's car at WG, anything to be read into that? Why would you test another team's car when you have no technical alliance at all?

Kahne and Finch update, Mark Martin to buy the team?
Kahne to the #09 car in 2011?: Hendrick Motorsports and James Finch are working on a partnership to put Kasey Kahne in the #09 Chevy for 2011. Multiple sources indicate the deal could be completed within the next few weeks. Hendrick will not be allowed to own the car under NASCAR's four-team rule, leaving Finch in the position of ownership, although engines and chassis would continue to come from Hendrick. Once completed, the partnership solves the HMS dilemma of where to put Kahne next season. Signed to take over the #5 Chevy in 2012, Kahne leaves RPM at the end of the year but Hendrick already has four signed drivers -- Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson -- under contract for 2011. Stewart-Haas Racing was the first option for Kahne, but sources claim sponsorship and financial constraints for that team have made such a move impossible. Instead, the partnership with Phoenix Racing is a compromise solution. Under a one-year deal, Kahne will be installed with a single-car team that gives him the opportunity to continue running full-time. Here's the kicker: once Kahne moves to HMS, sources claim the man he's replacing, Mark Martin, may be interested in purchasing the Phoenix team for 2012 as he scales back his driving career. Spokesmen on both sides have denied a deal is in the works. According to Hendrick spokesman Jesse Essex, "Our position with regard to 2011 has not changed. We continue to be open to various options, and nothing has been determined at this time." The 51-year-old Martin also remains uncommitted to his future beyond 2011."(Sports Illustrated)(6-11-2010) |

Silly Season kicking in gear at IMS:
" All signs point to Richard Childress Racing announcing the week of the Watkins Glen Race next month that Budweiser will be on #29-Kevin Harvick's car. Mobile 1 had been courting #24-Jeff Gordon, but HMS ended that by reupping with Quaker State. Don't be surprised to see that sponsor pop up at Stewart-Haas. " Richard Petty Motorsports' future seemingly hangs on what #43-AJ Allmendinger does. If he and sponsor Best Buy stay, then #98-Paul Menard and his sponsor may hang around, as well. But Allmendinger has talked to several teams, including Penske Racing. Menard is beating the bushes as well, with speculation he'll be in the fourth car at Richard Childress Racing. All we know for sure is Stanley is the only sponsor contractually committed to the organization beyond this season. Odds are RPM will shrink from four teams to three, two or none. The last would be a huge blow to the garage and increase the possibility of fields of fewer than 43 cars next season. It also could end Richard Petty's presence in the garage, which would be sad to see.(ESPN.com)(7-25-2010) |

McMurray, Ganassi working on contract extension: #1-Jamie McMurray and Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing officials are in the process of negotiating a new deal for the Sprint Cup driver, sources for both sides said following Sunday's victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. McMurray signed a one-year deal when he came to EGR from Roush-Fenway Racing this season. Co-owner Chip Ganassi would not comment on negotiations, but when asked if he planned to sign the reigning Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 champion to a long-term deal he quipped, "I'm going to fire him. What do you think?" Sources said McMurray's primary sponsor, Bass Pro Shops, also is expected to return.(ESPN.com)

I have quite a few for you. No surprise, as this is when silly season went into high gear last year:
-Mark is scheduled to drive the 5 next year, but Hendrick could put Kahne into it next year instead. -Several teams are trying to get Ambrose to drive for them next year. -The fates of 2 open wheelers, Hornish and Speed, is not looking great and both could lose their rides. -James Finch (Phoenix Racing) is planning to shut down his entire Nascar operation at the end of the year. |

If you ignore that This Story was written by Mr Ambroses' PR company... it seems Hendricks & Mr Gordon were quite taken with him...

what term is Ambrose under contract for? if he was to leave would be a shame I guess as it seems JGR Daugherty have stood by him pretty well, although there seems to be issues this year with the hardware, but is that MWR of JGR-D issues? Also during the broadcasts it never seems Brad Daugherty talks Ambrose and his team up much, but that just may be the way BD is...
interesting to note there is no reference to the #47 team in Jayski's rundown for next year, even though JTG-D are contracted to MWR for support... Last edited by Axeman444; 27 Jul 2010 at 03:38. |
