This is pretty exciting stuff. Can Dyson get within a second of Muscle Milk...oh wait...they just told Luhr to pit due to Dyson not being a threat.
That was something. LMP1 racing at its best. At least Jamie Howe is something to look at. |

I think Dyson/Muscle Milk could be more interesting than you'd think. Dyson knew they had one major change to make to really get there, and they'll change that final drive over night. Graf and Luhr definitely don't seem to be comfortable with the ARX-03c package, as compared to the ARX-03a package they have been running. Given the track and traffic density (33 cars on a 1.50-mile course), this is about the last place that you want a misbehaving car dividing your focus from the task of navigating everything else out there.

As far as the actual race, it should be interesting to see how LMP1 goes tomorrow, with Dyson and Muscle Milk both running comparatively untested equipment on their cars. Congrats to John Edwards on his pole, although to be honest I would rather have had other cars on top! Not too disappointed for the Vettes, third and fifth is pretty good. Hopefully Falken can climb up to the front during the race. Hoping for a yellow, teal & blue podium at the end tomorrow! Last edited by Mechanic Z; 5 Jul 2013 at 23:33. |

I don't know where the ALMS signal is routed to and from, but there have been a lot of electrical storms in the Southeast.

Congrats to John Edwards for a fairly convincing pole.
Still don't like the BMW, but if one is going to take pole it's nice to see it done in his hands. |

The car is shorter wheelbase. This track is the best for them so not surprising. who has the pace will ebb and flow depending on the type of track. Viper, Vette, Ferrari should be at the front at some of the bigger tracks.

I think the Vipers should make their way towards the front. I was hardly expecting domination out of BMW in their first year in a new car...
That calls for a change of avatar and signature. |

DeltaWing up to 7th overall. It should be classified as an LMP2, based on the pace, but it isn't looking too bad right now.

Woo!
If a battle between the only two competitive cars in a class could ever be called "epic", this would be the time. Man, Lucas Luhr is fun to watch when he's chasing. Props to Chris Dyson too, that's some impressive driving from him.

Clearly, the turbo lag on that Dyson car is nil! It also looks like the Mazda lump is giving more punch when it gets going.
The HPD may be quicker than the Lola, but I don't think it's by all that much. EDIT: I'm slightly amazed that we have NOT seen a Pace Car yet. This is good. |

Commentator reporting misfire for Dyson. I think it looks more like the regular speed differential between the cars now that Luhr has got past.

It sounds like the misfire report was a false alarm. Chris is reporting some imbalance on the brakes.
Also, this is Chris Dyson against Lucas Luhr. We'll see what happens when Guy Smith gives the #16 some stick. |

Imbalance on the brakes is likely tire wear...need to shift the bias to the rear towards the end of a stint usually.
Drivers shouldn't be doing the belts..let a crew guy worry about that stuff. |

Drivers doing the belts is pretty common, but some drivers are probably better at it than others.
Guy Smith knocked out a 46.388! He had just done a couple of 47s before that one. Maybe he can pull back one lap, and a yellow might help him get the second; we'll see. |

Bad luck if the seat insert went in on top of one of the belts, and Smith had to fight it free inside the cramped cockpit. A lot for Smith to make up considering both Luhr and Graf are quick and the Muscle Milk HPD is probably the quicker car.
Can you imagine what today's race would be like with Rolex rules and drivers? |

We would have seen a couple of RED flags by now the way those guys have driven lately!
Rob Dyson giving the official explanation on the stream; one belt twisted, and Guy sat on the other. |
