Gonna be hard to put 600hp in a stock block V6 in the middle of a season. At least the Ford V6 had at least a year of development before racing.

I hope it sounds great.

When they first introduced the EcoBoost V6, they said they don't use a muffler since the turbocharger muffles the sound enough to fit into the 110 db/50 feet limit.

Little off-topic:

GTE Corvettes are (insert unacceptable curse word here) loud, but I don't recall Corvette DP's being so loud in 2013 Rolex24. Has it changed now when DP Corvettes use side exhaust in 2014?

Though I can be wrong, I used generic K-Mart earplugs at Daytona from start to finish in Rolex24. In Le Mans I used only rubber earbuds plus taking a little distance to the track from time to time.

IMSA Viewing/ Spotter Guide for Road America is now online as a free download. A few driver changes and the Starworks DP entry, since the printed guide (avail at the circuit) went to press a couple of weeks ago.

As ever, guide will be updated as required as driver rosters are confirmed/changed

Download at the usual address

The entry list has been updated to include the Starworks HPD Riley. One driver has been nominated so far (Scott Mayer). It will be interesting to see how the new engine works at Road America.

Also, Mario Franchitti will be joining Fall Line this weekend to "bring a fresh pair of eyes" to the program.

Europeans get this race live on Motors, while the US gets it tape-delayed 4 hours or so later. Canada doesn't get it at all. Time to find a stream again. I wonder if the IMSA stream will be working then?

I guess it's fine as long it isn't chopped up like what ESPN did to the ALMS tv showing.

It shows a 3 hour broadcast on my guide so it should be the whole race (unless there is a red flag or something).

We get it if your carrier still has SPEED at 6:30 PM EST, 3 hour broadcast.

I see on Andy Blackmore's Spotters Guide that James Hinchcliffe is driving the Starworks DP this weekend. I haven't seen this previously reported and am curious as to why? "Hinchtown" should do well there as he knows the track; hope the car runs competitively now that it has been reconfigured since it's poor debut at Sebring in March.

In the S365 article about the cars return it says that IMSA didn't allow the proposed bodywork changes Riley and HPD suggested to help with cooling. So they had to spend an additional month retooling the design. It would be interesting to see what the series had a problem with.

Baron talks about that in the last sportscars-unleashed podcast... Their idea would have been a periscope intake on the roof or the kind of hump-like intake that the 962 Porsches had.

It's been amazing here for the past four days....really temperate conditions for August. It's usually 4 million degrees and 100% humidity.

This run of 70's with 50% has been just fantastic.

BAR1 pulled out of the race in their LMPC car, citing lack of funds. In the same breath, the team principal says they're working on 2 cars for COTA and PLM. I think that pretty much says everything there is to know about sportscar racing.

Watching the Race

I will not bother watching the race, why watching "wall to wall" commercials. All i'm interested in is GTLM anyway. I'll watch later when the feed is available on you tube.

There should be feeds that only show one class: like a Proto feed and a GTLM feed and so on...

Shame the coverage is now turning people away as the on track product isn't terrible, ATM. And nothing is really "bad" at the Elkhart Lake circuit. Like a few other tracks, I'd watch push carts around RA. DVR set. I am watching through the infomercials because it's better than not watching it at all.

To those going, have a good time. I am sure it will very enjoyable. Have a brat and a few Milwaukee's Bests for me.

For me Road America, while awesome, isn't one of those tracks I'd literally watch "anything" unlike at places like Lime Rock, Road Atlanta or Mont-Tremblant, but yes that is a fair comment.

Too bad the CTSCC race is again @ around midday, it was rather spectacular looking few years ago when it finished in dusk at IIRC 8:30-9PM

Road ATL and LR, yes, but, Mont-Tremblant?! To each their own.

Track opens in a bit....

MT is brilliant, just brilliant... the only problem is that no major series run there anymore. If there is one thing that Grand-Am ever did better than ALMS was that once upon in time they actually raced in that awesome circuit

Put it this way. For me, St. Jovite has overtaken Mosport on my list of favorite North American road courses, thanks to the addition of the paved run-off at the Ontario circuit.

This also now makes Road America my clear #1 on that list. (MP used to give RA a run for its money in my estimation.)
