As of today space saver spare wheels are now offically illegal in Victoria. There is now a blitz on with space savers fitted to cars. You can now expect to be fined and Defected

Moff get todays Australian and on page 1 there is a story on it. I have a client that was pulled over and defected in his brand new ******* (I won't say what cause there is possible legal action pending). The space saver was not on the tyre placard and the fine print says "To be driven at 80 km per hour for a maximum of 80km" after that it needs to be replaced

How can there possibly be any debate on the best Aussie muscle car?! I believe someone mentioned it earlier. It IS the best Aussie muscle car, no contest.

I know I'm supposed to be aHolden fan, but the XY GTHO Phase III really is the pinnacle.
But then, there's the Phase IV, the XU-1, the A9X, the XC Cobra and of course the E49. This might make me unpopular, but the VL Walkinshaw Group A was released about the time i got my licence and i so very desperately wanted one, still do. |

I was a regular at the brickies in Sydney in the late seventies and used to race an XU1. Over the quarter mile the hardest to beat were always the ford V6 Capris. This doesn't take into account the home built cars (like the FC holden with the big block with supercharger)

Welcome hybrid
My mates and I used to go to Brickies to watch, the three of us had Cooper S's. Useless for drags. Usually we would have a run against someone on Parra Road on the way there and on more than one occassion break a universal joint and have to call it a night early on. I once spent an entire night by the side of the road waiting for a tow truck to come. Funny, we liked trying on XU1's. |

funny about capris, they don't seem to be able to run with the XU1's in historic racing- you'd think the potential was there though.
also, the XR6T is clearly the best CURRENTLY available Aussie Muscle car - it is not fair to compare it to greats of the past, and something newer and better will surely come along (eg the FPV version sounds good). |

It would be interesting to see some figures over the 1/4 mile. I seem to remember my XU1 getting there in the mid to high 15's. It was pretty standard which would seem to make it a good benchmark. Some of the little turbo 4's today would probably eat that time.

Best Ever: GTHO Falcon Phase III (taking into account age).
I would agree with the choice of best current car though (taking into account price). Last edited by Scoot; 22 Aug 2003 at 15:33. |
