Stuff like when they used to have the one shot qualifying, which was designed in the hope that a front runner would mess up their one lap, whenever they did and they started out of position, they never showed them carving through the field.

Reverse grids! That's what we need.

I think that that was merely an observational viewpoint issue rather than any morbid fascination to see an accident.

Would have been nice to see at least some of Weeber's two quali laps - they must have been pretty spectacular! Three tenths in qualifying at Monaco suggests something pretty special.

They did show the crash during the introduction to qualifying. It didn't look bad enough to have the consequences it did.

He ran wide at the top of the hill, entering Casino Square, hit the Armco and the off-side front wheel snapped away from the suspension (although it looked still to be tethered) and was forced back into the side of the monocoque. What was surprising was that it actually broke the tub, otherwise it would not have been such a serious repair job.

What they said was that since those disc wheel covers were banned this year, Ferrari had beefed up their wheels to create a similar effect, so they are now much stronger than before, hence the damage to the tub.

Indeed. The TV producer would have a timing screen along with monitors in front of him/her but I guess it's too much to ask of their tiny, cocaine-riddled brains to expect them to see who's doing purples and get the cameras following them

that's the problem with this format qualifying - we dont get to see much of the different drivers' laps, though it was good watching kubica, whose car and driving style had much attitude.

and i must admit, i would have liked to have seen more of schumacher qualifying. Probably in the deluded hope of seeing some of this:

Alain Prost was always described as diminutive and JYS was no giant and as far as I know Lauda used to be known as the 'Rat', so you can make of ithat as you will. AJOK was fairly small as was Keke.

However, there were some giants like the Super Swede as was H.J. Stuck jr.

There's an idea for an new thread. The Giants of F1 - despite their stature.

Yes. They had to get a new bare tub and build up a new car with that using as many of the parts from the original car as possible. There was a suggestion that they might fit a new gearbox.

The accident didn't look like 'much' so there must have been some considerable forces involved inorder to crack the tub.

Maybe they make a longer wheel base car now that opportunity arises

I heard a rumour that Alonso is going to stop in the first couple of laps and do the whole race on the hards in the hope of a safety car. Clever plan if true

If there's an incident at St. Devote at the start of the race it could very well play into his hands.

I had heard that Alonso was going to start on hard tyres anyway. I think you can do that if you are starting from the pit lane.

I had also heard that quite a few of the front runners were looking to do something unusual with their tyre stops.
