As for JW, the only thing Monster was going to get was free publicity and a some loose change from 888. There was zero chance of him being benched by the courts. Quote:

Now clearly that was a negotiating gambit, but the fact remains there was no way he could race a Red Bull with any Monster logos on his suit or helmet. Had the court ruled that the contract was valid and Jamie was required to fulfill it - then yes, he would have been benched. Hence, Jamie had to pay (as I understand) low six figures to extract himself from it. |

Gee whiz.
I'm sueing him, because they sued me, and now he's sueing me right back. Time to build a bridge, humanity. |

Maybe one of the parties can blame the loss of their title sponsor because that pilot didnt show up in his seat this year, so damages can be discussed at a level of at least a year's title sponsorship... what might also contaminate that is the move from that team to the brand that allegedly helped cause the issue in the first place...

As ever, Mr van Gisbergen ignores the fact that some of the "keyboard warriors" as he calls them are/were/may become his fanbase, the unwashed gumbies who go out to the supermarket with an influence on the buying decision as to which pet food product may be purchased.

Strange article filled with contradictions which might not be a surprise considering what went down last year.

It's a fairly straightforward account of why he did what he did. Also, the keyboard warriors remark was more about the social media side of it. His Twitter stream would have been pretty vile so I don't think any driver should be worried about the 'fans' that turn so viciously. |

some speculation that SVG had been given a sign on fee which he was allowed to keep at the time, based on excuse given, and this maybe what the legal case is about
Speculation only as far as i know |

Where one states a position which has a material effect on another party (i.e. key person retires), and then through discovery it can be proven the original position was lets say commercially deceitful, there may be a case to answer.
It will all be down to proving the motive to break the contract was in fact different than the representation made, which in a commercial environment is relevant (unlike domestic). The real fault here may lay with the incumbent employer for not simply letting the contract run its course (without payment for non-provision of services), hence the subject would not have been able to enter a new contract. So basic, I cannot fathom why you would cancel the contract (if this did actually happen), unless there was nothing preventing the subject from entering multiple contracts (don't laugh, it does happen, contracts only work when they are watertight, that's why there are lawyers that specialise in contract breaking). |

Looks like all of this is still going on and I'm sure it would be in the best interests for it to be tied up and concluded.
I believe SVG made some bad decisions from start to finish and I'm not sure he "gets it" based on what he has said. I wont rehash the whole timeline but I don't think it all was a wise choice. It is a very fickle, harsh and mean business and he isn't a champion yet, just a race winner and when you torch bridges and relationships, that can come back to bite. Others will wonder down the road, "if I sign this guy to a long term deal, is he going to bail on me in the middle of the night and sneak out the back of the garage never to be seen again, or at least until he turns up signed with another team". At this level it is both a sport and a business. Some guys get so lost in the business side, they forget to enjoy and perform in the sporting side of it and some guys forget it's a business and that other people have money and investments on the line. Looking at the history of modern day motor racing, most champions and especially multiple champions excel and master both sides. |
