If you have been watching the Science Channel over the past month, they have started dropping subtle hints. This was a big one... did you know that if Henry Ford had not won with the 999 in an auto race, there would not be a Ford Motor Company today?

AAR last had a hand in the Delta Wing, so I'll not necessarily be excited about any new project, especially if it involves the kind of Ford factory commitment that we have grown to (not) expect over the last 25 years.

AAR's last big glory was with the Toyota GTP. They capped that era in a dominant position.

I keep thinking about Gurney's description of driving the 999... "straddling that big flywheel which was the size of a manhole cover." That thought has made we twitch several times.

Henry Ford won with a race car called "Sweepstakes" to attract the backing needed to start the Ford Motor Company, not "999". 999 came later, after Ford was founded and was used to break several records, driven by Barney Oldfield.

THIS is the car responsible for the formations of Ford...

Woah. So the Delta Wing just ran a 1:39.536. So far, the leader (#01 CGR DP) holds a 1:39.397. Less than two tenths the gap.

#01 Ganassi, Deltawing and Shank Ligier now within 0.15 seconds. ESM still a bit off the pace, 2.7 seconds back.
