458? All I see in the new Corvette is cues from the GT-R.

I'm a Ferrari fan and I only see a corvette as well. Only thing that might be construed as something taken from Ferrari is the LED portion of the headlights, but thats utter BS, casue headlight design has been copied between cars for as long as cars have existed..

Corvette will have a presance in the WEC/Am class , as Larbre are intending on defending their crown . With just 1 car at present , but possibly that might chance .

As someone who has watched the Corvettes and Ferraris closely race each other for the past decade or so, I have watched as both have become lower, wider and more aggressive. They have become slippier in the right places while becoming angular in the right places for downforce. After watching them approach at 180 mph and then passing only 10 feet away, you get a feel for how they look and resemble each other. They have continued to keep looking closer to each other in profiles over the years and continue to borrow cues from each other, IMO. |

Daughter Karen and I drove to the North American International Auto Show to see the newly announced 2014 Corvette on Thursday January 17th, Industry Day 2. The tickets were pricey but crowds were smaller.
I am the owner of a 2001 Corvette since new and my family and I have driven it 70,000 miles all over the USA. I love my C5 but I love the looks of the C7 a lot more. I am anxious to see one on the road and to drive one next fall. I am probably not the target demographic: Looks fantastic in grey: The wheelbase IS longer but this exaggerates it a bit: The interior looks outstanding: Yes, the taillights have a 'new Chevrolet' look (not particularly Camaro), but the details definitely fit the car: Overall, the car has real presence. Love it or hate it, not many will ignore it. Some traditionalists seem particularly critical, but this is GM's big move into the 21st century and I think they did that very well! |

I'm still confused if most of the complaining about the lights being camaro like when most every other Chevy car has a square or rounded square tail light design now. Guess if you only ever see Camaros it might look it but to me it shows Chevy's commitment to racing the Vette as a couple articles claim the air through the rear end is directed out through ducts around the lights. The square design was more efficient at this task supposedly but I personally think round lights would look out of place with the rest of the car.
Hoping Chevy brings a display to the RoadAtl GA race in April so I get a chance to see it in person soon. |

Not a bad-looking car, but it's not a Corvette. Still, Chevy could have done worse. We will get used to it.

The squarish tail lights are Chevy's new design language. You'll see more cars start using them. Notice the new Malibu has them, as does this new Vette. That's 3 cars with this style.

Sort of... They were squared off in the later years but still roundish. Just like the C5s were oval but still roundish. I love the new car and will get used to the tail lights, but that doesn't mean I have to like it! |

If you've liked Corvettes in the past, you like this one. If you haven't liked Corvettes in the past, you don't like this one.

You have been such an appreciative group, how about a few more?
You can see from the first photo, shot at 11:18 am, why we wanted to go on Thursday and why my daughter and I almost ran to the GM display in the far back corner as soon as we arrived. By the time we made our final pass at about 3:30 pm, people were 3 deep. Incidentally, there was only one person that showed up eventually to answer questions. She was a very high fashion young woman that I assumed was a display decoration with a canned speech. Wrong! I didn't ask a question but eavesdropped on a discussion she was having about the electronic limited slip differential cooler. It was definitely a discussion, not a canned speech. Impressive..... The picture below was shot at 11:25 am and you can see the crowd building rapidly. The Corvette was truly the star of the show. I have read various forum discussions about how to tell a Z51 from a base coupe but haven't been able to dig through the clutter to get the answer. Has anyone gotten the real facts? Enjoy! |

I'm not sure it's an external difference there David, however the red show car is a Z51 loaded model and the grey one is the base model in every sense of the word. Might be worth comparing?

Something about it reminds me of an Aston Martin One-77.

Might be slightly off topic, does anyone know who got the 2012-spec GTE chassis that P&M ran in ALMS last year? Or do P&M not sell off their old chassis anymore?

RacingSportsCars' archive says that of 6 GTE-spec C6.R chassis, #1 and #3 are now with Larbre, #2 stopped racing after a season and a half, #4 stopped racing after one season, as for #5 and #6... we'll have to wait and see. #1 and #2 are 2009-build, #3 and #4 2011-build and #5 and #6 2012-build.

Can I also say I'd love to see Dempsey running one should they ditch P2 for GTE this year. |
